PURPOSE: To determine whether dopamine receptor stimulation regulates Na,K-ATPase-mediated ion transport in cultured nonpigmented ciliary epithelium (NPE).
METHODS: Using a rabbit NPE cell line, active Na-K transport activity was determined by measuring ouabain-sensitive potassium (86Rb) uptake in cell monolayers. Western blot analysis of membrane material obtained from cell homogenates was conducted to examine tyrosine phosphorylation of membrane proteins.

A novel nortriterpene, termed correolide, purified from the tree Spachea correae, inhibits Kv1.3, a Shaker-type delayed rectifier potassium channel present in human T lymphocytes. To identify ion transport systems involved in the maintenance of vascular smooth muscle cell volume the effects of incubation medium osmolality and ion transport inhibitors on the volume and 86Rb and 22Na transport in cultured smooth muscle cells from rat aorta (VSMC) have been studied. The vasoregulatory role of nitric oxide (NO) and angiotensin II type 1 (AT(1)) receptors in the circulation of the submandibular gland (SMG) of rats was studied.
