Hyaluronic acid microneedle patch for transdermal delivery of naringin-loaded PEGylated terpesomes in a rat model of rheumatoid arthritis: Modulation TGF-β1, oxidative stress, and inflammation.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease that causes progressive joint damage and systemic effects. Naringin (NRG), a citrus-derived flavonoid with potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities, is hindered by poor solubility and low bioavailability in clinical applications. NRG was encapsulated into PEGylated terpesomes (TPs) prepared by thin-film hydration using phosphatidylcholine, terpenes, and sodium deoxycholate, then integrated into hyaluronic acid-based microneedles (NRG-TPs/HA-MNs) to create a dual-mechanism transdermal delivery system. Optimized NR

Effectiveness of P6 Stimulation and Transdermal Scopolamine Patch for the Reduction of Nausea and Vomiting During Caesarean Section Under Combined Spinal-Epidural Anesthesia: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Background/Objectives: Obstetric patients undergoing elective cesarean section (CS) with combined spinal-epidural (CSE) anesthesia often experience intraoperative nausea and vomiting (N&V). While prophylactic treatment with antiemetic drugs can be effective, it may also carry potential adverse effects for both the mother and the baby. To address this, we designed a randomized clinical trial to assess the effectiveness of transdermal scopolamine patches and electrical P6 stimulation as preventive measures for N&V in patients scheduled for elective CS under CSE anesthesia. Methods: Following the

Incidence of postoperative atrial fibrillation in transdermal β-blocker patch users is lower than that in oral β-blocker users after cardiac and/or thoracic aortic surgery.

OBJECTIVE: Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) after open heart surgery is associated with a high risk of mortality and morbidity. Although oral β-blockers are usually recommended to prevent POAF, the efficacy of a transdermal β-blocker patch in preventing POAF is unclear. We compared the incidence of POAF between users of oral and transdermal bisoprolol. METHODS: We investigated 108 patients who underwent cardiac and/or thoracic aortic surgery between April 2016 and February 2018. We compared perioperative clinical and hemodynamic variables between 49 patients treated with a transdermal

Transdermal buprenorphine patches applied in a 4-day regimen versus a 3-day regimen: a single-site, Phase III, randomized, open-label, crossover comparison.

BACKGROUND: In 2001, a transdermal matrix patch formulation of buprenorphine was approved for the treatment of moderate to severe cancer pain and severe pain that is unresponsive to nonopioid analgesics. The primary recommendation contained in the prescribing information was that transdermal patches be worn for a 3-day period before application of a new patch. OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to evaluate the potential for extending the time the buprenorphine patch is worn from 3 to 4 days. METHODS: This single-center, randomized, open-label, crossover Phase III study compared the efficacy

Efficacy and Safety of Loxoprofen Hydrogel Transdermal Patch Versus Loxoprofen Tablet in Chinese Patients with Myalgia: A Double-Blind, Double-Dummy, Parallel-Group, Randomized, Controlled, Non-Inferiority Trial.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Loxoprofen (LOX) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Although oral administration of LOX has been widely prescribed, clinical guidelines for osteoarthritis generally recommend topical rather than oral NSAIDs in specific patients. However, there is limited information on the effects of loxoprofen sodium oral (LOX-O) versus loxoprofen sodium hydrogel transdermal patch (LOX-T) in myalgia patients. Hence, this non-inferiority study was designed to compare the efficacy and safety of LOX-O versus LOX-T in Chinese patients with myalgia. METHODS: In this double

Reusable and non-invasive TiO2-based photodynamic transdermal patch (RPT) for treating MDR-negative bacteria strain and promote wound healing through a synergistic approach of ROS-induced RNS.

Wound healing is delayed due to the infection and biofilm formation of antibiotic-resistant species of gram-negative bacteria especially Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli. Antibacterial photodynamic therapy provides an efficient therapeutic strategy for overcoming drug resistance by producing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS). Here, we have designed a low-cost light emitting diode (LED) based reusable and non-invasive titanium dioxide nanoparticles patch which is sandwiched between the thin polymer layers. The light-induced pore formation in the polyme

Cardiovascular outcomes in patients with locally advanced and metastatic prostate cancer treated with luteinising-hormone-releasing-hormone agonists or transdermal oestrogen: the randomised, phase 2 MRC PATCH trial (PR09).

BACKGROUND: Luteinising-hormone-releasing-hormone agonists (LHRHa) to treat prostate cancer are associated with long-term toxic effects, including osteoporosis. Use of parenteral oestrogen could avoid the long-term complications associated with LHRHa and the thromboembolic complications associated with oral oestrogen. METHODS: In this multicentre, open-label, randomised, phase 2 trial, we enrolled men with locally advanced or metastatic prostate cancer scheduled to start indefinite hormone therapy. Randomisation was by minimisation, in a 2:1 ratio, to four self-administered oestrogen patches
