Investigation of morphological abnormalities in red blood cells among dental laboratory technicians.

A variety of materials are used in dental prosthesis laboratories (DPL), especially metal alloys and methyl methacrylate (MMA)-based monomers and polymers. These metal alloys contain elements such as cobalt, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, lead, and mercury that can have toxic effects on human health when excessive amounts of exposure occur. This study aims to investigate the cytotoxic effects of occupational exposure due to dental prosthesis manufacturing operations on erythrocyte cells. Thirty DPL workers were compared with the 30 control group and the questionnaire forms were applied includin

Transitioning Operative Dentistry Competencies to the Simulation Laboratory: Benefits and Challenges for Dental Students.

Dental education must continually adapt to changes in licensure, assessment expectations, patient care priorities, and institutional resources. At the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center College of Dentistry, Class II and Class III operative dentistry competencies for D4 students were moved from the clinical setting to the simulation laboratory, where students complete standardized preparations and restorations on plastic teeth with simulated caries. This perspective uses that curricular change as a case example to analyze a broader assessment problem: how dental programs can improv

Comparative Assessment of Five Decalcification Methods for Human Dental Tissue: An Ex Vivo Laboratory Study.

BACKGROUND: Histological examination of human teeth is essential for the diagnosis of developmental anomalies, odontogenic lesions, and other dental pathologies. However it remains technically challenging because highly mineralized tissues require extensive processing before thin sections suitable for microscopic evaluation can be obtained. This study aimed to identify a decalcification protocol suitable for routine dental pathology by balancing rapid processing with high-quality tissue preservation. To achieve this, we compared five commonly used decalcification protocols using complementary

[Efficacy of barrier creams in comparison to skin care products in dental laboratory technicians--a controlled trial].

BACKGROUND: Irritant contact dermatitis of the hands is very common in dental laboratory technicians due to frequent contact with various irritants. Barrier creams (HS) are often avoided because a tight grip of tools and small objects is necessary; furthermore dental objects must not be contaminated by HS. In this study the efficacy of HS applied during working hours was compared to skin care products (HP) applied only after work. METHOD: 2 popular commercial HS (HS-1, HS-2) and 2 moisturizers containing urea and beeswax respectively (HP-1, HP-2) were evaluated in 5 laboratories by a total of

FoxO1 mediates odontoblast differentiation of hDPSCs via B cell-derived ANGPTL1 in dental caries: A laboratory investigation.

AIM: Clinical and in vitro evidence indicates that chronic inflammatory responses initiated by dental caries can persist in the dental pulp even after treatment, necessitating the formation of reparative dentin to restore tissue homeostasis and health. Human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) serve as crucial precursors in this reparative process. This study explores the role of B cells and their secreted factor, Angiopoietin Like 1 (ANGPTL1), in promoting hDPSCs differentiation into odontoblasts under carious conditions, with a particular focus on the activation of Forkhead box O1 (FoxO1).
