Combinations of Energy-based Devices plus isotretinoin for management of acne and acne scars: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: A 6-month interval between systemic isotretinoin (ISO) and the initiation of energy-based interventions has been recommended, due to concerns about keloid formation and delayed wound healing. While this postponement goes against the current trend of early intervention for acne scarring. This systematic review evaluates the efficacy, safety, and patient satisfaction of combinations of ISO with energy-based devices (EBD). STUDY DESIGN/METHODS AND MATERIALS: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were compreh

Efficacy of intradermal tranexamic acid injection following IPL for the treatment of persistent post acne erythema: a split-face, controlled trial.

Post-acne erythema (PAE) is a common consequence of acne vulgaris, often leading to significant psychological distress and social impairment. While Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) has been proven as a non-invasive option for reducing erythema, the addition of adjunctive therapies may enhance treatment outcomes. To evaluate the effects of intradermal tranexamic acid (TXA) injections on the reduction of persistent PAE following IPL therapy in a split-face controlled trial. 33 patients aged 16 to 45 with persistent PAE were randomly assigned to receive either IPL with intradermal injection of TXA or I

Treatment of Porphyria Cutanea Tarda Scarring With Combination Laser Treatment and a Pilot Use of Artificial Intelligence to Quantify Laser Results.

BACKGROUND: Porphyria cutanea tarda (PCT) is the most common subtype of porphyria and results from a deficiency of the enzyme uroporphyrinogen decarboxylase. Even after successful treatment, patients can be left with significant scarring, and there is little published data on the safety and efficacy of light-based or laser-based therapies. METHODS: This report examines a case of a 47-year-old male with PCT secondary to HCV, treated with a combination of fractionated erbium-doped yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Er:YAG), intense pulsed light (IPL), and carbon dioxide (CO2) lasers to address significan

Photobiomodulation therapy for children's eye and vision conditions.

BACKGROUND: Photobiomodulation (PBM) is a non-invasive, light-based technology that stimulates cellular mechanisms, with therapeutic effect on a variety of medical conditions. Wavelengths of light are absorbed by intracellular photoreceptors, resulting in the activation of signalling pathways that culminate in biological changes within the cell. PBM treatment has been reported for a range of eye/vision conditions, mostly in adults. OBJECTIVES: We carried out a scoping review of the published literature and collated reported uses of PBM for eye/vision/lid/orbital conditions in children and you

LAight Therapy is an Effective and Gentle Treatment in Adolescents Suffering from Hidradenitis Suppurative: Results from 96 Patients Using Real-world Data.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic skin condition characterized by the formation of painful nodules, abscesses, and tunnels, typically in intertriginous areas. While HS primarily affects adults, it causes in particular severe distress when it affects adolescent patients. Physicians prefer to avoid the use of systemic medications and surgery in children due to the potential side effects, psychological burden, and long-term consequences. The device-based LAight® therapy combines intense pulsed light and radiofrequency and received EU-wide approval in 2017 for the treatment of adults with

Intense pulsed light is effective in treating postburn hyperpigmentation and telangiectasia in Chinese patients.

Intense pulsed light (IPL) has been used to treat postinflammatory hyperpigmentation and telangiectasia in Fitzpatrick type I -II skin. However, its therapeutic effects after superficial second-degree burns in Asian populations with Fitzpatrick type III-IV skin are uncertain. Thirty-five Han Chinese patients with facial or hand hyperpigmentation and telangiectasia due to second-degree fire burns received treatment with IPL. Each patient underwent 2-6 treatments over 3-5 weeks. The laser wavelength was 560-615 nm. Skin pigmentation was evaluated by two plastic surgeons as well as by the patient

Outcomes of 532 nm frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser use in the treatment of port-wine stains.

BACKGROUND: Port-wine stains (PWSs) are congenital dermal malformations involving venules, capillaries, and, probably, perivascular nerves. The primary morbidities of PWS are psychological disturbances that adversely affect the development of personality. Lasers have been the treatment of choice for PWS. However, only one type of laser is not a panacea for all PWS malformations. For the treatment of PWSs, carbon dioxide, argon, krypton, copper bromide, frequency-doubled neodymium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Nd:YAG), flashlamp pumped pulsed dye laser, and also intense pulsed light sources can be u
