Ten patients who had sustained 11 unstable dorsal fracture-dislocations of finger proximal interphalangeal joints were reviewed at a mean follow-up of 16 years. All had been treated acutely by closed reduction and transarticular Kirschner wire fixation of the proximal interphalangeal joint, without any attempt at reduction of the fracture of the base of the middle phalanx, which probably involved 30-60% of the articular surface. Seven of the ten patients complained of no finger pain or stiffness, and none complained of severe pain. There was a mean fixed flexion deformity of 8 degrees at the p

OBJECTIVES: The influence of condylar fracture treatment on facial symmetry and its relationship with mandibular parameters remains relatively unexplored. Understanding the effects of different treatment modalities on skeletal remodeling and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) function is important for improving clinical outcomes. In this study, facial soft tissue-related linear measurements derived from CBCT were evaluated in relation to underlying skeletal changes and TMJ functional outcomes following different management approaches for condylar fractures.
METHODS: A retrospective study was condu

METHODS: From March 2017 to December 2018, 60 children with supracondylar fracture of humerus treated with closed reduction and Kirschner wire fixation were analyzed retrospectively, and divided into two groups according to different needling methods. Thirty patients in radial three needles fan fixation group (group A), including 19 males and 11 females, aged from 2 to 10 years old with an ave

BACKGROUND: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of ultrasound-assisted closed reduction and percutaneous pinning (CRPP) compared with traditional open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) in the treatment of Song type V lateral condylar humerus fractures (LCHFs) in children.
METHODS: A multicenter retrospective study was conducted on 187 pediatric patients with Song type V LCHFs between August 2019 and August 2023. Among them, 96 patients underwent ultrasound-assisted CRPP, and 91 patients received ORIF. Operative time, number of intraoperative fluoroscopy exposures, fracture healing duration

PURPOSE: The olecranon fracture is an uncommon injury reported to incur many possible complications in children. The aim of this study was to compare the outcome of two different surgical techniques in isolated olecranon fracture.
METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated 22 children with isolated olecranon fracture treated by open reduction and tension band wiring fixation versus closed reduction and percutaneous screw fixation. We compared the dislocation before and after surgery by radiography. The patients were evaluated clinically with Quick DASH(®).
RESULTS: Both techniques showed good rad

Distal radius fractures are common in elderly patients and often lead to functional impairment. This study compared closed reduction with external fixation (EF) and open reduction with locking plate fixation (LP) in elderly patients. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 80 elderly patients with unilateral distal radius fractures treated in our hospital from 2021 to 2024. Patients were divided into a closed reduction and EF group (n = 40) and an open reduction and locking plate internal fixation group (n = 40), according to the surgical procedure. General demographic and fracture-related d

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to present a new method for managing displaced metaphyseal fractures of the distal radius in pediatric patients that could not be reduced by closed reduction, and to evaluate the clinical and radiological outcomes of reduction after the stepwise injection of physiological saline.
METHODS: A total of 24 pediatric patients who underwent closed reduction of displaced metaphyseal distal radius fractures using the stepwise injection of physiological saline in our clinic between May 2018 and May 2020 were retrospectively examined. Follow-up visits were sche

BACKGROUND: Ultrasound-guided closed reduction allows for real-time visualization of fracture segments, overcoming the limitations of blind palpation. However, standard probes vary in resolution and adaptability. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical feasibility and efficiency of a wireless handheld ultrasound device (V-scan) by comparing it with high-end linear and hockey stick probes through a retrospective analysis.
METHODS: This retrospective comparative study reviewed the medical records of 160 patients with nasal bone fractures treated between January 2024 and January 2026. Closed r

BACKGROUND: The management of pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures (SHF) with a pink pulseless hand (PPH) remains controversial. Traditional teaching advocated urgent vascular exploration, but many centres now favour closed reduction and percutaneous pinning (CRPP), followed by observation if the hand stays warm and well-perfused.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare clinical and radiological outcomes of displaced pediatric SHF in two groups: those presenting with a PPH versus those with a well-perfused hand and palpable pulse. All patients were managed with CRPP.
METHODS: We retrospe

BACKGROUND: Open reduction and percutaneous pinning (ORPP) is commonly regarded as the primary treatment option for serious displaced lateral condyle fractures of the humerus (LCFs) in children. However, some authors have suggested that closed reduction and percutaneous pinning (CRPP) may be an appropriate method for treating LCFs. This meta-analysis aims to compare the outcomes of these 2 fixation techniques.
METHODS: Our study conducted a search of the Pubmed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases for published research up to October 1, 2022. Our analysis comprehensively compared the opera

BACKGROUND: Peripheral nerve blocks may provide better conditions for closed reduction of distal radius fractures as compared to other more frequently used modalities. In this systematic review, we evaluate existing evidence on the effect and harm of peripheral nerve blocks for closed reduction of distal radius fractures in adults.
METHODS: We performed a systematic review with meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis including trials investigating the use of peripheral nerve blocks for closed reduction of distal radius fractures. Co-primary outcomes were (1) the quality of the closed redu

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this meta-analysis was to illustrate the clinical outcomes and safety of two different management options for Song stage 2-4 lateral condyle humeral fractures in children.
METHOD: In January 2023, a systematic computer-based search was conducted. Data were retrieved for patients with two different management options for lateral condyle humeral fractures in children. The primary endpoints were clinical outcomes based on infection, avascular necrosis, and nonunion. After testing for publication bias and heterogeneity between studies, the data was aggregated for stoch

Treatment of acute pediatric Monteggia fractures is still debated. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of strategy based on closed reduction by trans-physeal antegrade elastic stable intramedullary nailing (ESIN) of the ulnar fracture. Retrospective analysis of 22 patients (13 boys and nine girls) treated for acute Monteggia fractures between May 2008 and August 2018 was performed. Mean age at injury was 6.6 years. Mean follow-up was 4.5 years. On the basis of the Bado classification, 15 lesions were of type I, three types III and four types IV. All the patients were managed with

BACKGROUND: Distal radial fractures in adults are common, representing a substantial burden to patients and health systems. The 2 main treatments are closed reduction and cast immobilization (CR) and volar locking plate (VLP) fixation. Our primary aim was to determine if VLP fixation leads to better patient-reported pain and function at 12 months compared with CR.
METHODS: We searched systematically for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing outcomes of VLP fixation with CR for the treatment of distal radial fractures in adults. The Cochrane Collaboration risk-of-bias tool was used to

BACKGROUND: Management of severely angulated Rockwood and Wilkins' type C (RW-C) thumb metacarpal base fractures in children is challenging. We report experiences of percutaneous leverage reduction and dual antegrade crossing Kirschner (DACK) wire fixation in these fractures, aiming to assess the results using our reduction technique.
METHODS: From October 2011 to September 2015, A total of 17 patients with severely angulated RW-C thumb metacarpal base fractures were treated at our hospital. The injured arm, including the entire first ray, was immobilized with a thumb-spica cast for 4-6 weeks
