Computerised cognitive training tools and online nutritional group counselling for people with mild cognitive impairment: study protocol of a completely digital, randomised, controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: People with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) are at increased risk of decreasing cognitive functioning. Computerised cognitive training (CCT) and nutrition have been shown to improve the cognitive capacities of people with MCI. For each variable, we developed two kinds of interventions specialised for people with MCI (CCT: 'individualised' CCT; nutrition: a whole-food, plant-based diet). Additionally, there are two kinds of active control measures (CCT: 'basic' CCT; nutrition: a healthy diet following the current guidelines of the German Nutrition Society). The aim of this study i

Four-Limb Coordinated Training and Neuroplasticity in Older Adults with Cognitive Frailty: Mechanisms and Clinical Evidence.

Cognitive frailty (CF), the coexistence of physical frailty and cognitive impairment without dementia, is associated with disability, institutionalization, and mortality, yet exercise prescriptions for this syndrome remain insufficiently targeted. This review examined whether four-limb coordinated training, defined as exercise that combines integrated upper- and lower-limb movement with meaningful coordination or motor-cognitive demands, is associated with neuroplasticity-related and clinical benefits in older adults with CF. Following PRISMA 2020 guidance, we conducted a focused PubMed-based

Rethinking Cognitive Interventions in Bipolar Disorder: Feasibility and First Insights From Metacognitive Group Training (MCT-Bipolar).

The feasibility of psychological interventions should be considered when developing and evaluating new therapy methods. Indicators of low feasibility may be a high dropout rate, a low attendance rate and low treatment satisfaction, which threaten the validity of clinical research studies. Given the severity and chronicity of bipolar disorder and its impact on psychosocial functioning, effective treatments are needed to alleviate depressive and manic symptoms. The study evaluated the feasibility and preliminary treatment effects of a novel disorder-specific metacognitive group training for bipo

Cognitive Training for Emotion-Related Impulsivity and Rumination: Protocol for a Pilot Randomized Waitlist-Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Inhibitory deficits are common in psychopathology. Emotion-related impulsivity (ERI) and rumination are general risk factors for psychiatric distress that are similarly associated with dysfunctional inhibition-particularly in affective contexts. A number of cognitive remediation procedures have been developed to improve inhibitory control; however, most remediation programs focus on "cold" cognition independent of affective processing. This pilot trial will gather preliminary evidence for a new cognitive training intervention targeting "hot" affective control (ie, inhibitory functi

Effects of dual-task training in patients with post-stroke cognitive impairment: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Evidence for the efficacy of cognitive-motor dual-task (CMDT) training in patients with post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) and no dementia is still lacking. More importantly, although some studies on the cognitive effect of CMDT training show an improvement in cognitive performance, the results are still controversial, and the intervention mechanism of CMDT training on cognitive function improvement is not clear. The main purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of CMDT training on cognitive function, neuron electrophysiology, and frontal lobe hemodynamics in patients

Can Cognitive training Reignite Compensatory Mechanisms in Advanced Multiple Sclerosis Patients? An Explorative Morphological Network Approach.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) has been shown to significantly impair brain connectivity, as alterations in functional and structural networks have been identified and associated with clinical status, particularly cognitive deficits. We aimed to identify structural connectivity changes in grey matter networks following cognitive rehabilitation (CR) in persons with MS (PwMS). Fifteen long-standing PwMS underwent a 5-week CR-program and five healthy controls (HC) were also investigated. T1-weighted MRI scans and neuropsychological tests were obtained before and after CR. T1-weighted scans were used to

Functional brain changes associated with cognitive training in healthy older adults: A preliminary ALE meta-analysis.

Accumulating evidence suggests that cognitive training (CT) programs may provide healthy older adults (OAs) with cognitive benefits that are accompanied by alterations in neural activity. The current review offers the first quantitative synthesis of the available literature on the neural effects of CT in healthy aging. It was hypothesized that OAs would evidence increased and decreased neural activations across various challenging CTs, and that these effects would be observed as significantly altered clusters within regions of the frontoparietal network (FPN). Assessing acute effects of two motor-cognitive training modalities on cognitive functions, postural control, and gait stability in older adults: a randomized crossover study.

BACKGROUND: The process of aging often accompanies a decline in cognitive function, postural control, and gait stability, consequently increasing the susceptibility to falls among older individuals. In response to these challenges, motor-cognitive training has emerged as a potential intervention to mitigate age-related declines. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to assess the acute effects of two distinct motor-cognitive training modalities, treadmill dual-task training (TMDT) and interactive motor-cognitive training (IMCT), on cognitive function, postural control, walking ability, and dual-task per

Home Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation With Gamified Cognitive Control Training for Depression: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

IMPORTANCE: Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has emerged as a home-based treatment in major depressive disorder (MDD), although its effects are typically small to moderate and inconsistently observed. Because tDCS may act synergistically with behavioral interventions, combining both approaches represents a promising strategy for developing more effective home-based treatments for MDD. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of home-based tDCS and concurrent gamified cognitive control training (CCT) in adults with MDD. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: T

Group training classes for dogs with canine cognitive dysfunction: effects on sleep, activity, and caregiver burden.

Canine Cognitive Dysfunction (CCD) is a progressive neurodegenerative condition of ageing dogs, sharing pathological and clinical features with Alzheimer's disease. Despite the growing prevalence of CCD, non-pharmacological interventions for affected companion animals remain underexplored. This study evaluated the effects of structured group training classes on signs of CCD, sleep, daily activity, and caregiver burden. Forty-two dogs (≥ 8 years) with mild to moderate CCD were enrolled in either a scent-based (S; n = 21) or physical structured training (PST; n = 21) program. Each dog completed

Cognitive and brain function enhancement in Gen X group after personalized, AI supervised EEG-neurofeedback training.

Objective.Interventions supporting medical care and enhancing quality of life in neurodegenerative or age-related cognitive decline are strongly needed. Electroencephalographic (EEG) neurofeedback can enable users to modulate their brain activity through real-time feedback. However, evidence for its clinical effectiveness remains inconclusive, partly due to limited personalization and insufficient task relevance of existing protocols. We tested whether personalized EEG neurofeedback supervised by deep neural networks (DNNs) can enhance cognitive performance in older adults (Gen X).Approach.Fif

Serum metabolomic profiling following cerebellar repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation combined with cognitive training on Alzheimer's disease.

BACKGROUND: Complex metabolic disorders are a key characteristic of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Although studies have shown that combining repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) with cognitive training (CT) can alleviate AD symptoms, the specific pathophysiological processes involved remain poorly understood. Our goal is to analyze metabolomic changes associated with bilateral cerebellar rTMS plus CT in AD treatment, to identify potential biomarkers of disease progression and therapeutic outcomes, and to validate these findings against a systematic review of existing literature. Effects of high-intensity interval training on physical and cognitive function in middle-aged male mice.

INTRODUCTION: Declining functional capacity, both physical and cognitive, is a consequence of aging. However, exercise is a promising intervention to mitigate normal age- related decline. Although numerous studies have elucidated the benefits ofexercise per se, the effect of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on a middle-aged population is less well-studied. OBJECTIVE: Our primary purpose was to assess the effect of 3 months of HIIT on physical and cognitive performance in middle-aged (17-month-old at the end) male C57BL/6J mice compared to sedentary controls (SED). We hypothesized that
