Hair-nail ectodermal dysplasia (HNED; OMIM 602032) constitutes a rare subgroup of ectodermal dysplasias characterised by onychodystrophy, hypotrichosis and brittle hair. We identified a large consanguineous Pakistani family with four siblings affected by a congenital autosomal recessive form of the disease. Based on previous genetic findings in HNED we performed linkage analysis in the family using chromosome 12 markers. Diabetic foot complications that lead to lower extremity amputations pose a significant challenge to the entire global health system. BACKGROUND/AIM: To report cases in which we achieved sufficient width of the keratinized gingiva using a coronally advanced flap in combination with a subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) obtained by the 'CO2 laser de-epithelization technique' (CODE).
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Eleven patients with 21 Miller Class I, II, and III gingival recessions had surgery. To prepare SCTG, free gingival grafts were harvested and de-epithelialized extra-orally. This prospective split-mouth pilot case series compared the use of a bilayer collagen matrix (CM) to an autogenous gingival graft (AGG) in the ability to increase the zone of keratinized attached gingiva.
