Impact of Milk Thistle Cake as the Natural Antioxidant Source on the Mitigation of Oxidative Effects in Goat Milk Induced by Oxidized Linseed Oil.

This study explores a novel feeding strategy in the nutrition of dairy goats, utilizing milk thistle cake supplements to mitigate milk oxidation determined by the presence of oxidized linseed oil in diets. An experimental trial involving 30 dairy goats was conducted with three groups: a control group fed a diet with 7% fresh linseed oil (CON), an experimental group fed a diet where the fresh linseed oil from the CON group was replaced with oxidized linseed oil (LOO), and an experimental group fed a diet with 7% oxidized linseed oil and 10% milk thistle cake (LOM). The milk thistle cake had a r

Rats given linseed oil in microemulsion forms enriches the brain synaptic membrane with docosahexaenoic acid and enhances the neurotransmitter levels in the brain.

Long chain n-3 fatty acids such as docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are essential for the normal functioning of the brain. The vegetarian sections of the population get only alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) through their diet as a source of n-3 fatty acids. Hence, in this group of the population, the ALAs need to be converted to DHA through the action of the desaturase and the elongase enzymes. However, the conversion of the ALA to the DHA is very minimal (<2%) in mammals. Our recent studies have shown that the conversion of the ALA to the DHA can be enhanced significantly when given in the microemulsion

Uptake of α-linolenic acid and its conversion to long chain omega-3 fatty acids in rats fed microemulsions of linseed oil.

The present work was designed to prepare linseed oil (LSO) microemulsion and explore the possibility of enhancing the uptake and utilization of α-linolenic acid (ALA) present in LSO. The bioavailability of encapsulated LSO as against native oil was monitored in rats by measuring the uptake in vitro using the intestinal everted sac model and in-vivo administration of microemulsions of LSO to rats for a period of 30 days. Microemulsions were prepared by using different binding materials such as gum acacia, whey protein and lipoid. When LSO was encapsulated with gum acacia, whey protein and lipoi

Production of TNF-α, nitric oxide and hydrogen peroxide by macrophages from mice with paracoccidioidomycosis that were fed a linseed oil-enriched diet.

Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) can modulate the immune system and their primary effect is on macrophage function. Paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM) is an endemic systemic mycosis in Latin America that is caused by the dimorphic fungus Paracoccidioides brasiliensis (Pb). Macrophages are the main defence against this pathogen and have microbicidal activity that is dependent on interferon-Γ and tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-α. These cytokines stimulate the synthesis of nitric oxide (NO) and hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂), leading to the death of the fungus. To study the effect of n-3 PUFA on

Lymphatic transport of α-linolenic acid and its conversion to long chain n-3 fatty acids in rats fed microemulsions of linseed oil.

In the present study we evaluated the uptake of ALA and its conversion to EPA + DHA in rats given linseed oil (LSO) in native form or as a microemulsion in whey protein or in lipoid. In a single oral dose study in which rats maintained on rodent pellets deficient in ω-3 fatty acids were intubated with 0.35 g LSO in lipoid, the amount of ALA present in lymph was increased reaching a maximum concentration of 16.23 mg/ml at 2.5 h. The amount of ALA present in lymph was increased to a maximum level of 10.95 mg/ml at 4 h in rats given LSO as a microemulsion in whey protein. When LSO was given witho

iTRAQ-based quantitative phosphoproteomics provides insights into the metabolic and physiological responses of a carnivorous marine fish (Nibea albiflora) fed a linseed oil-rich diet.

The limited production of fish oil (FO) cannot meet the increasing demand of the aqua-feed industry. Accordingly, the replacement of FO with sustainable alternatives such as vegetable oils has become imperative. Linseed oil (LO), which has an abundance of α-linolenic acid (ALA), is a promising FO alternative. Nevertheless, high dietary LO inclusion generally causes abnormal hepatic lipid accumulation and growth retardation across carnivorous marine fish species. Previous studies have attempted to elucidate the mechanisms with regard to gene and protein levels; however, little is known about po

Effects of Diets Enriched in Linseed and Fish Oil on the Expression Pattern of Toll-Like Receptors 4 and Proinflammatory Cytokines on Gonadal Axis and Reproductive Organs in Rabbit Buck.

Infections of the genital tract can perturb the fertility in humans and animals. Pathogen recognition and activation of innate immunity onset through the pattern recognition receptor activation, such as Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), leading to the production of proinflammatory cytokines and mediators. TLR4 is expressed both on leukocytes and nonimmune cells. Rabbit TLR4 shows great similarity to its human counterpart. Moreover, the TLR4 signalling pathway could be modulated by long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA). The objectives of this study were (i) to determine the expression lev

Assessing the effects of linseed consumption on thyroid hormones and hepatic toxicity in rats drenched with Cordarone overdose.

BACKGROUND: Cordarone, a benzofuranic-derivative iodine-rich medication primarily used for tachyarrhythmias, frequently induces alterations in the peripheral metabolism of thyroid hormones, predominantly by inhibiting 5'-deiodinase activity, resulting in elevated serum thyroxine and reverse triiodothyronine (T3) levels, alongside diminished serum T3 concentrations. Overt thyroid dysfunction, which manifests as either Cordarone-induced thyrotoxicosis. Linseed oil or flaxseed oil is a type of oil that comes from seeds. It is one of the oldest oils on the market. In Vitro Studies of the Effect of Oil Emulsions from Transgenic Flax Varieties on the Treatment of Wound Healing and Care of Human Skin with the Tendency to Inflammation.

Excessive amounts of free-oxygen radicals produced during inflammation induce oxidative stress and lead to cell damage, thus delaying the transition of inflammation into the proliferation in the wound healing process. Oxidative stress on skin cells also plays an important role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory skin diseases. The aim of the planned in vitro studies was to assess the mechanisms of regenerative action and protection of cells against oxidative stress of three oil emulsions from transgenic (GMO) flax varieties M, B, and MB and a linseed emulsion from traditional NIKE linseed oil.

Response to, and recovery from, an intramammary inflammatory challenge in dairy ewes: Effect of replacing dietary n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids with n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Inflammatory processes, such as mastitis, are well known to impair not only health, but also productivity, underscoring the key role of the immune response in supporting sustainable livestock systems. Among dietary compounds with immunomodulatory properties, PUFA are of particular interest, as n-6 PUFA are generally associated with proinflammatory effects and n-3 PUFA with anti-inflammatory effects. This study evaluated whether the dietary incorporation of a source of n-3 PUFA (i.e., linseed oil) as a substitute for an n-6 PUFA source (i.e., soybean oil) could modulate the response of lactatin
