Pathologic complete response to enfortumab vedotin plus pembrolizumab in node-positive urothelial carcinoma: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Biofuels obtained from first-generation (1G) sugars-starch streams have been proven unsustainable as their constant consumption is not only significantly costly for commercial scale production systems, but it could potentially lead to problems associated with extortionate food items for human usage. In this regard, biofuels' production in alkali-thermophilic environs from second-generation (2G) bio-waste would not only be markedly feasible, but these extreme conditions might be able to sustain aseptic fermentations without spending much for sterilization. RESULTS: Present investig

Complete pathological response in patients with bladder cancer: predictors and outcomes.

Pathologic complete response (pCR) in bladder cancer, most often defined as pT0N0 at radical cystectomy (RC) following transurethral resection of the bladder tumor with/without neoadjuvant therapy, has emerged as a powerful prognostic marker. Predicting pCR before RC and understanding its prognostic nuances are increasingly important as perioperative chemotherapy and immunotherapy evolve. In this study, we reviewed the contemporary evidence regarding definitions and clinical contexts of pCR in bladder cancer; clinical, pathological, imaging, molecular, and liquid-biopsy predictors of pCR; and

[Pathological Complete Response to Chemotherapy in Four Cases of Pancreatic Cancer].

While recent advances in chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer have improved treatment outcomes, pathological complete responses(pCR)remain rare. Here, we present four cases of pancreatic cancer in which a pCR was achieved following chemotherapy. Three cases were classified as borderline resectable and one was resectable. Two patients received gemcitabine+nab-paclitaxel, 1 received mFOLFIRINOX, and one received gemcitabine+S-1 therapy. Histopathological examination after resection revealed only fibrosis and scarring. No tumor cells were found in any of these cases, leading to diagnoses of pCR. Tw

Complete pathological response of hepatocellular carcinoma with systemic combination chemotherapy.

Prognosis of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma is dismal when locoregional treatments have failed. Systemic chemotherapy is seldom effective in inducing objective response and prolonging survival. We report a case of complete pathological remission of hepatocellular carcinoma after three cycles of systemic chemotherapy. A 64-year-old woman presented with histologically documented hepatocellular carcinoma without associated liver disease, relapsed after earlier locoregional therapy. Surgery was not performed as thoracic computerized tomography (CT) demonstrated pulmonary bilateral nodules. The

Racial differences in pathologic complete response rate and clinical outcomes following neoadjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer.

PURPOSE: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is commonly used in early-stage breast cancer. A complete pathologic response (pCR) after NAC is associated with improved outcomes. This study investigated differences in pCR and clinical outcomes by race. METHODS: A single-institution, retrospective chart review identified patients with early-stage breast cancer who received NAC between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2017. Associations between race and pathologic and clinical outcomes were evaluated using multivariable logistic regression and Cox proportional hazard models. Kaplan-Meier estimates an

Pathologic complete response and survival according to germline BRCA1/2 status in triple-negative breast cancer.

BACKGROUND: Germline BRCA1/2 pathogenic variants (gBRCA-PV) are associated with chemosensitivity in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), but whether higher pathologic complete response (pCR) rates translate into improved long-term outcomes remains uncertain. We assessed associations of gBRCA-PV status with pCR, recurrence-free survival (RFS) and breast cancer-specific survival (BCSS) in a real-world TNBC cohort treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT). METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 293 patients with stage I-III TNBC diagnosed between 2007 and 2023 who were treated with NACT and un

Complete pathologic response after neoadjuvant immunotherapy for mismatch repair-deficient colon cancer with invading adjacent organs.

Mismatch repair-deficient (dMMR) colorectal cancer exhibits poor responsiveness to fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapy but remarkable sensitivity to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). Neoadjuvant dual ICI therapy results in high pathologic response rates with minimal toxicity. However, the immunotherapy-induced rapid regression of locally advanced tumors with suspected invasion into adjacent organs may result in fistula formation. We describe here the case of an 80-year-old woman with locally advanced dMMR ascending colon cancer (cT4bN2aM0, stage IIIC), who underwent diverting ileostomy foll

Complete Pathologic Response With Pembrolizumab and Enfortumab Vedotin in Urothelial Carcinoma of the Upper Urinary Tract.

Urothelial carcinoma of the upper urinary tract (UTUC) presents a significant clinical challenge, often requiring aggressive surgical intervention for optimal management. We present a case of an 84-year-old woman with recurrent high-grade papillary UTUC of the left renal pelvis, refractory to prior endourologic interventions, who underwent neoadjuvant treatment with pembrolizumab and enfortumab vedotin (Pembro/EV) due to contraindications to cisplatin therapy. Following a favorable response to neoadjuvant therapy, the patient underwent laparoscopic left radical nephroureterectomy, achieving a

Pathologic Complete Response to Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy and Pembrolizumab in Postpartum High-Risk Basal-Type Breast Cancer.

Neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy with pembrolizumab now defines the standard of care for early high-risk triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). However, the role of pembrolizumab in neoadjuvant therapy (NAT) for estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancer remains uncertain. A 39-year-old G2P2 female discovered a palpable mass in the right breast while breastfeeding her 7-month-old child, leading to the diagnosis of a high-grade ER+ (80% moderate staining), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (ErbB2-) invasive ductal carcinoma with axillary nodal involvement. A machine learning model that classifies breast cancer pathologic complete response on MRI post-neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

BACKGROUND: For breast cancer patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC), pathologic complete response (pCR; no invasive or in situ) cannot be assessed non-invasively so all patients undergo surgery. The aim of our study was to develop and validate a radiomics classifier that classifies breast cancer pCR post-NAC on MRI prior to surgery. METHODS: This retrospective study included women treated with NAC for breast cancer from 2014 to 2016 with (1) pre- and post-NAC breast MRI and (2) post-NAC surgical pathology report assessing response. Automated radiomics analysis of pre- and post-NA

Beyond the image: achieving complete pathologic response in MSI-high metastatic colon cancer despite persistent PET activity.

BACKGROUND: Microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) colorectal cancer, presents high tumor mutational burden and is highly responsive to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). ICIs have transformed metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) treatment. However, the role of partial or discontinued immunotherapy and the interpretation of PET imaging in this setting remain challenging. OBJECTIVE: We aim to report a case of MSI-H mCRC with liver metastasis demonstrating complete pathological response after partial immunotherapy despite persistent PET activity, highlighting integrative approaches of immunot

Characterization of pathologic complete response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy among breast cancer patients in the National Cancer Database.

BACKGROUND: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAT) is often used for patients with node-positive breast cancer to facilitate downstaging regardless of tumor biology. However, pathologic complete response (pCR) rates can vary according to patient and tumor factors and may not be uniform in the breast and axilla. We sought to identify clinicopathologic and treatment-specific factors predictive of NAT response in the breast and axilla and their impact on overall survival (OS). METHODS: Patients with clinical stage II-III breast cancer undergoing NAT between 2018 and 2021 were selected from the National

Complete Pathologic Response to PARP Inhibitor Olaparib in a Patient with Stage IVB Recurrent Endometrioid Endometrial Adenocarcinoma.

Treatment for endometrial cancer is rapidly evolving with the increased use and integration of somatic tumor RNA sequencing in clinical practice. There is a paucity of data regarding PARP inhibition in endometrial cancer given that mutations in homologous recombination genes are rare, and currently no FDA approval exists. A 50-year-old gravida 1 para 1 woman with a diagnosis of stage IVB poorly differentiated endometrioid endometrial adenocarcinoma presented to our comprehensive cancer center. Following surgical staging, she was placed on adjuvant chemotherapy with carboplatin/paclitaxel which

Clinical characteristics and pathologic complete response (pCR) rate after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in postpartum women with breast cancer.

PURPOSE: Breast cancer (BC) is currently the leading cause of death in women worldwide. Studies have confirmed that pregnancy is an independent factor affecting the survival of BC patients. BC found during pregnancy, lactation, or shortly after delivery is what we used to think of as pregnancy-associated breast cancer (PABC). The current expert definition of this concept is not uniform; however, there is growing evidence that postpartum breast cancer (PPBC) differs from other types of BC in terms of both biological features and prognosis, with a slightly different focus on diagnosis and treatm

Panniculitis in a patient with pathologic complete response to talimogene laherparepvec treatment for recurrent, in-transit melanoma.

Talimogene laherparepvec (T-VEC) is a novel intralesional oncolytic genetically modified herpes simplex virus type 1 vector for the treatment of unresectable cutaneous, subcutaneous, and nodal melanoma. Although immunological therapies such as T-VEC offer therapeutic promise, they carry a risk of immune-related adverse events (irAEs), the full spectrum of which is incompletely understood. We report a 63-year-old previously healthy man with cutaneous melanoma of the right ankle and progressive right lower extremity in-transit metastases despite systemic therapy with immunomodulatory and molecul

Case Report: Pathologic complete response to PRaG therapy in an elderly patient with refractory metastatic gastric cancer.

Hepatoid adenocarcinoma of the stomach (HAS) is a rare histologic subtype of gastric cancer with distinct pathological features and poor prognosis. Surgery and chemotherapy remain the primary treatment modalities, but outcomes are generally unsatisfactory. Radiotherapy can enhance tumor immunogenicity by releasing tumor antigens, thereby promoting antitumor immune responses and potentiating the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors. We report a case of advanced HAS that progressed after first-line treatment with chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy. The patient subsequently rec
