Triangulating Technology Acceptance, Cognitive Load, and Human Factors: A Qualitative Analysis of Nursing Workflows with Multi-Vendor CCIS in PICU.

Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and Critical Care Information Systems (CCIS) are essential for data integration and patient safety. However, multi-vendor environments can introduce interface inconsistencies, increasing nurses' cognitive workload. This study qualitatively analyzed operational challenges following the implementation of a multi-vendor CCIS (Vendor A and B) in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Free-text reports were examined using inductive content analysis. A total of 216 codes were identified and organized into 41 subcategories and eight overarching categories. Key findings reve

Clarifying Exercise Intolerance in Cardiovascular Disease: Protocol for a Scoping Review and Evolutionary Concept Analysis.

Background/Objectives: Exercise intolerance is clinically important but conceptually unstable in cardiovascular care. Its relationship with exercise tolerance, exercise capacity, functional capacity and the nursing concept of activity intolerance remains unclear, and the term entered nursing from other disciplines without corresponding conceptual scrutiny. This protocol will examine how these concepts are used in adults with cardiovascular disease, how use varies across conditions, care settings, pathway phases and time, and which attributes, antecedents, consequences and related concepts are

Understanding the transsexual patient: culturally sensitive care in emergency nursing practice.

Transsexual individuals present to the emergency department for various reasons; yet, providers and nurses are often unaware of the unique needs of transsexual patients. This article provides an understanding of challenges faced by transsexual individuals in health care access and treatment. The authors explain commonly used terminology and provide an overview of the transition process including the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, 4th edition criteria for diagnosis and the World Professional Association of Transgender Health's Standards of Care for treatment. The authors provide important d

Team-Based Outpatient Rheumatology Care: A Scoping Review of Terminology, Team Composition, and Impact on Advancing the Quintuple Aim.

OBJECTIVE: Team-based models of rheumatology care are increasingly recognized to improve outcomes across the Quintuple Aim, yet the evidence remains fragmented. This scoping review aimed to map the evidence on team-based outpatient rheumatology care across all domains of the Quintuple Aim (population health, patient experience, costs, provider well-being, and health equity). METHODS: This scoping review followed Joanna Briggs Institute methodology and adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for scoping reviews (PRISMA-ScR) checklist. Low-level laser therapy for treatment of venous ulcers evaluated with the Nursing Outcome Classification: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Different methods are available for the treatment of venous ulcers. Most current approaches focus on a combination of topical and compressive therapy. Adjuvant low-level laser therapy may be helpful in lesions with a protracted healing course, but evidence for its use is still limited. This paper describes the protocol of a randomized controlled trial designed to compare the effect of adjuvant low-level laser therapy versus conventional venous ulcer tissue repair, evaluated by a nurse using clinical indicators from the Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC). METHODS/DESIGN: For thi

Spirituality in nursing theory and practice: dilemmas for Christian bioethics.

Moral strangerhood is due in part to competing worldviews. The profession of nursing is experiencing a paradigm shift which creates ethical dilemmas for both Christian nurses and Christian patients. Nursing's new focus on spirituality and spiritual care presents itself as broadly defining a desired state or patient outcome -- spiritual integrity -- supposed to be applicable to all patients of all faiths. Analysis of nursing's definition of spirituality reveals assumptions and values consistent with an Eastern/New Age worldview which may cause hostility towards Christian patients stereotyped as

Nursing interventions for patients in last days of life and their family caregivers at home: a protocol for a mixed methods systematic review.

BACKGROUND: The demand for end-of-life care will rise significantly in coming decades due to increasing life expectancy and the growing burden of chronic diseases. Palliative care aims to support patients' preferences to remain at home (both for ongoing care and, when possible, to die). The feasibility of dying at home is shaped by a complex interplay of patient factors, the capacity of family caregivers, and the availability of home care teams and community resources. Healthcare professionals, especially nurses, are pivotal in accommodating patient preferences, and are uniquely positioned to

Use and Design of Virtual Reality-Supported Learning Scenarios in the Vocational Qualification of Nursing Professionals: Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Numerous reviews advocate using virtual reality (VR) in educational contexts. This medium allows learners to test experiences in realistic environments. Virtually supported scenarios offer a safe and motivating way to explore, practice, and consolidate nursing skills in rare and critical nursing tasks. This is also cited as one of the reasons why VR can significantly increase the knowledge acquisition of nursing students. Nevertheless, studies are limited in their significance owing to the chosen design. Despite great interest, this results in a low level of confidence in VR as a c

A UK Delphi consensus study on the definition and management of advanced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Advanced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (acSCC) encompasses locally advanced and metastatic disease; however, no standardized definition exists. Recognition and categorization, therefore, often rely on multidisciplinary judgment, which may lead to variations in diagnosis and management between centers. This study aimed to establish United Kingdom (UK) consensus on the definition and optimal management of acSCC. METHODS: A modified Delphi methodology was followed. Ten senior clinicians formed a steering group and identified four key topics for consensus statement development sur

Nurse-coordinated biomarker and symptom monitoring for immune checkpoint inhibitor toxicity.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors have transformed cancer treatment, but immune-related adverse events (irAEs) may affect almost any organ and can progress rapidly when early manifestations are overlooked. Because nurses perform repeated assessment, laboratory review, symptom triage, patient education, and coordination across treatment cycles, nurse-coordinated monitoring is a clinically relevant component of ICI safety. This targeted narrative Mini Review distinguishes four biomarker functions: pretreatment prediction of future irAE risk, longitudinal surveillance, diagnostic support after symptom
