Effect of increasing corn silage inclusion in finishing diets cattle with or without tylosin on performance and liver abscesses.

A pooled analysis was performed to evaluate whether corn silage fed at 15% or 45% of diet DM impacted liver abscesses prevalence at slaughter in five previous experiments. Cattle fed 15% corn silage had 7.8% abscessed livers compared to 4.1% for cattle fed 45% corn silage when all diets contained tylosin. While improved due to increased corn silage inclusion, the objective of the current finishing study was to determine the impact of silage inclusion in finishing diets with and without tylosin on performance and incidence of abscessed livers in beef cattle. A total of 640 (BW = 334 ± 25 kg) st

Discovery of ABBV-4083, a novel analog of Tylosin A that has potent anti-Wolbachia and anti-filarial activity.

There is a significant need for improved treatments for onchocerciasis and lymphatic filariasis, diseases caused by filarial worm infection. In particular, an agent able to selectively kill adult worms (macrofilaricide) would be expected to substantially augment the benefits of mass drug administration (MDA) with current microfilaricides, and to provide a solution to treatment of onchocerciasis / loiasis co-infection, where MDA is restricted. We have identified a novel macrofilaricidal agent, Tylosin A (TylA), which acts by targeting the worm-symbiont Wolbachia bacterium. Chemical modification

Effect of in-feed administration and withdrawal of tylosin phosphate on antibiotic resistance in enterococci isolated from feedlot steers.

Tylosin phosphate is a macrolide commonly administered to cattle in North America for the control of liver abscesses. This study investigated the effect of in-feed administration of tylosin phosphate to cattle at subtherapeutic levels and its subsequent withdrawal on macrolide resistance using enterococci as an indicator bacterium. Fecal samples were collected from steers that received no antibiotics and steers administered tylosin phosphate (11 ppm) in-feed for 197 days and withdrawn 28 days before slaughter. Enterococcus species isolated from fecal samples were identified through sequencing

The photocatalytic degradation of tylosin by a trimetallic ZnCrNi/GO-layered double hydroxide in the conformation of a clustered crumb sheet.

Industrial wastewater from drug production is one of the contributors to water pollution. For drug wastewater treatment, photodegradation-based chemical technology has gained more attention because of the drug's microbicidal nature and stability. A zinc-chromium-nickel trimetallic-layered double hydroxide compounding with graphene oxide catalyst (ZnCrNi/GO) was synthesized and exhibited a clustered crumb sheet morphology. The prepared catalyst was characterized by a scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with an energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR)

Effect of redox potential and pH status on degradation and adsorption behavior of tylosin in dairy lagoon sediment suspension.

Veterinary antibiotics are the most heavily used pharmaceuticals in intensive animal farming operation. Their presence in the environment through application of manure and lagoon water as fertilizer in agricultural fields has generated a growing concern in recent years due to potential threat to the ecosystem and the risk they pose to human and animal health. Among the antibiotics, tylosin, a macrolide class of antibiotics, has been widely used for disease prevention and growth promotion in swine, cattle/dairy, and poultry production. To understand degradation and sorption behavior of tylosin

Biodegradation of tylosin in swine wastewater by Providencia stuartii TYL-Y13: Performance, pathway, genetic background, and risk assessment.

Microbial bioremediation offers a solution to the problem of residual antibiotics in wastewater associated with animal farms. Efficient degradation of antibiotic residues depends upon the genetic make-up of microbial degraders, which requires a comprehensive understanding of the degradation mechanisms. In this study, a novel, efficient tylosin (TYL)-degrading bacterium, Providencia stuartii TYL-Y13 (Y13) was isolated, which could completely degrade 100 mg/L TYL within 15 h under optimal operating conditions at 40 ℃, pH 7.0 %, and 1 % (v/v) bacterial inoculation rate. Effect of Vancomycin, Tylosin, and Chlortetracycline on Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus faecium Colonization of Broiler Chickens During Grow-Out.

Broiler chickens may serve as reservoirs for human colonization by vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE). We examined the effects of vancomycin and two commonly used antimicrobial feed additives on VRE colonization in broiler chickens during grow-out. Chicks received unsupplemented feed or feed containing vancomycin, chlortetracycline, or tylosin from day of hatch to grow-out at 6 weeks. At 3 days of age, chicks received by crop gavage 107 colony-forming units (CFUs) of a human or poultry VRE isolate. Cecal contents were monitored weekly for VRE, short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), and bacteria

Transcriptomic analysis of the effects of tylosin on the protective immunity provided by the Mycoplasma gallisepticum vaccine Vaxsafe MG ts-304.

The antimicrobial tylosin is commonly used to control mycoplasma infections, sometimes in combination with vaccination. However, the efficacy of a live mycoplasma vaccine, when combined with subsequent antimicrobial treatment, against the effects of subsequent infection with a virulent strain is unknown. This study employed differential gene expression analysis to evaluate the effects of tylosin on the protection provided by the live attenuated Vaxsafe MG ts-304 vaccine, which has been shown to be safe and to provide long-term protective immunity against infection with Mycoplasma gallisepticum

Recovery of Fecal Microbiome and Bile Acids in Healthy Dogs after Tylosin Administration with and without Fecal Microbiota Transplantation.

Antibiotics cause gut dysbiosis and bile acid dysmetabolism in dogs. The effect of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) on microbiome and metabolome recovery is unknown. This prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled study included sixteen healthy purpose-bred dogs. All dogs received tylosin 20 mg/kg PO once daily (days 1-7) and were randomly assigned to either receive one FMT via enema (day 8), daily oral FMT capsules (days 8-21), or daily placebo capsules (days 8-21). Fecal samples were frozen at regular intervals until day 42. Quantitative PCR for 8 bacterial taxa was performed to calcu

Effect of continuous in-feed administration of tylosin to feedlot cattle on macrolide and tetracycline resistant enterococci in a randomized field trial.

Liver abscess causes substantial economic loss to the beef cattle industry through liver condemnation, reduced animal performance, and carcass yield. Continuous in-feed use of tylosin is the most effective and a commonly used practice in beef cattle production to prevent liver abscess. However, such mass medication can increase the level of antimicrobial resistant bacteria. We investigated the effect of continuous in-feed use of tylosin in feedlot cattle on (i) concentrations and prevalence of erythromycin-resistant (ERYr) and tetracycline-resistant (TETr) enterococci; (ii) associated antimicr

Computational Studies on Selected Macrolides Active against Escherichia coli Combined with the NMR Study of Tylosin A in Deuterated Chloroform.

Although many antibiotics are active against Gram-positive bacteria, fewer also show activity against Gram-negative bacteria. Here, we present a combination of in silico (electron ion-interaction potential, molecular docking, ADMET), NMR, and microbiological investigations of selected macrolides (14-membered, 15-membered, and 16-membered), aiming to discover the pattern of design for macrolides active against Gram-negative bacteria. Although the conformational studies of 14-membered and 15-membered macrolides are abundant in the literature, 16-membered macrolides, and their most prominent repr

Tylosin mitigation by PMS activated via electron-rich Fe/N co-doped biochars: coupled radical and non-radical pathways.

Activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and enhancing its catalytic reactivity remain key challenges in advanced oxidation processes, particularly for the degradation of recalcitrant organic compounds. In this study, Fe/N co-doped biochars (NPBC) with Fe0/ferric oxide components and electron-rich N configurations in the carbon framework were synthesized to activate PMS for tylosin (TYL) degradation. A high TYL degradation efficiency of 99.9% was achieved even at a low PMS concentration (15 mg/L). The activation of PMS by NPBC involves Fe0 oxidation and Fe2+/Fe3+ redox cycling, as well as electron t

Validation method for determining the concentration of norfloxacin-tylosin combination in broiler chicken tissue using high-performance liquid chromatography.

BACKGROUND: The combination of norfloxacin and tylosin is an alternative to prevent antibiotic residue and resistance. Measurement of the levels of the combination of norfloxacin-tylosin in tissue using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to obtain parameters for further research, such as pharmacokinetics and residue analysis. When broiler chickens are given norfloxacin-tylosin antibiotics, they make antibiotics more effective against bacterial illnesses. These results indicate that the right mix of antibiotics can be used as a single medicine to achieve synergistic effects. Also, re

Penicillin and amikacin mixture has bactericidal activity equivalent to gentamicin, tylosin, lincomycin and spectinomycin mixture in equine frozen semen.

Neat stallion semen can contain a variety of microorganisms, some of which may impair sperm quality and/or cause infection of the mares' reproductive tract. For this reason, antibiotics are commonly added to semen extenders. A combination of gentamicin, tylosin, lincomycin and spectinomycin (GTLS) has been recommended for use, but there are no reports on the use of this mixture in equine semen extender. Penicillin and amikacin (PA) are safe for preserving sperm quality while effectively controlling bacterial growth in equine cooled stored semen, but data on frozen semen are scarce. Therefore,
