Patients with dementia with Lewy bodies display a signature alteration of their cognitive connectome.

Cognition plays a central role in the diagnosis and characterization of dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). However, the complex associations among cognitive deficits in different domains in DLB are largely unknown. To characterize these associations, we investigated and compared the cognitive connectome of DLB patients, healthy controls (HC), and Alzheimer's disease patients (AD). We obtained data from the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center. We built cognitive connectomes for DLB (n = 104), HC (n = 3703), and AD (n = 1985) using correlations among 24 cognitive measures mapping multiple cog

Enhancing cognitive and physical performance in older adults through wearable sensor-based interactive cognitive-motor training: a randomized clinical trial.

Cognitive decline in older adults, often manifested as reduced processing speed and memory, represents a significant challenge to daily functioning and overall quality of life (QoL). Physical inactivity compounds these issues, whereas increased physical activity can lead to healthier cognitive aging. This study examines the impact of wearable sensor-based interactive cognitive-motor training (ICMT) on cognitive and physical performance in older adults. In a single-blind, randomized, parallel-group trial, 36 community-dwelling older adults aged 65 and older were divided into an ICMT and a cogni

Ultrasound-Assisted H2 Transmitter Enables Hydrogen-Gene Therapy to Prevent Anesthesia/Surgery-Induced Cognitive Impairment.

Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) frequently occurs after surgery, resulting in extended hospitalizations, higher healthcare expenses, and potential long-term cognitive impairment. Despite its significant impact, effective preventive and therapeutic strategies for POCD are still lacking. Neuroinflammation plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of POCD. To address this, a H2 emitter is developed that employs hydrogen-gene therapy facilitated by ultrasound, allowing for the repair of the neuroinflammatory microenvironment in a spatiotemporally controllable manner to effectively preven

Dietary formaldehyde: a silent aggravator of diabetes and cognitive impairments.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder associated with a range of serious complications, including insulin resistance (IR) and cognitive impairments. IR is recognized as a high-risk factor for the development of cognitive decline. However, it remains unclear which endogenous or exogenous factors induce these two pathological features. Recent studies indicate that certain diets, environmental pollutants, and genetic deficiencies or polymorphisms influence the metabolism of endogenous formaldehyde. Formaldehyde has been implicated in the onset of DM. Notably, elevated levels of f

Nonlinear associations between reported childhood trauma and cognitive impairment in schizophrenia spectrum disorders.

BACKGROUND: Cognitive impairment is a core feature of schizophrenia associated with childhood trauma, but the specific adversity factors underlying this relationship remain unclear. We hypothesized that physical neglect, rather than emotional neglect or abuse (emotional, physical, sexual), would be specifically related to general cognition and memory (verbal learning, working memory), even when controlling for co-occurring traumas, and explain most of the cognitive differences between cases and controls. Data visualization revealed several nonlinear relationships, which were examined through e
