BACKGROUND: Pharmacoepidemiological studies show that large proportions of people with neuropathic pain are not prescribed the recommended medications, do not adhere well to these medications, and often discontinue the treatment within 6 months. Identifying what predicts these outcomes can inform a strategy to ensure that people with neuropathic pain are prescribed recommended medication and continue their treatment when appropriate.
METHODS: We carried out a systematic review and meta-analysis to identify predictors of pain medication prescribing, adherence, and discontinuation in adults wit

The current meta-analysis aims to investigate the relationship between parental stress and well-being, by focusing on the positive dimensions of parental well-being, such as happiness and life satisfaction, which are often overlooked in favor of negative outcomes like depression. It also extends the scope beyond specific populations, such as parents of children with special needs, to include parents of typically developing children. This meta-analysis included evidence from cross-sectional, longitudinal, daily diary, and intervention studies. By examining various moderators related to parent a

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a critical global health threat, with Klebsiella pneumoniae emerging as a high-priority pathogen due to escalating resistance rates. This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the AMR profiles of K. pneumoniae isolates from South Africa, a resource-limited setting where AMR burdens remain understudied. A comprehensive search of PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar (January 2000 to June 2024) identified studies reporting resistance data. Nineteen studies comprising 9402 isolates were included, and data were analyzed using random-effects models.

BACKGROUND: Following childbirth, up to 20% of women may have postpartum depression (PPD), which can adversely affect the mother's health, the infant's development, and familial connections. Numerous causes exist, although recent research indicates that micronutrient shortages are modifiable biological factors. This systematic review aims to consolidate existing knowledge regarding the relationship between micronutrient levels and the risk of PPD.
METHODS: This review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA 2020 guidelines and registered with PROSPERO. We reviewed every study published up to

BACKGROUND: Understanding the relationship between age and diagnostic challenges, as well as outcomes in older patients with head and neck cancer, is crucial. The significance of age as a prognostic factor and how it should influence treatment decisions is debated, highlighting the need for tailored insights to help physicians make more informed choices.
OBJECTIVE: This scoping review aims to address the diagnostic challenges/differences and patient outcomes as infection, pain, treatment-related complications (either postmedical or postoperative), treatment toxicities, disease control, morbid

BACKGROUND: Children exposed to severe malaria may recover with gross neurologic deficits (GND). Several risk factors for GND after cerebral malaria (CM), the deadliest form of severe malaria, have been identified in children. However, there is inconsistency between previously reported and more recent findings. Although CM patients are the most likely group to develop GND, it is not clear if other forms of severe malaria (non-CM) may also contribute to malaria-related GND. The objective of this systematic review is to synthesize evidence on the prevalence and risk factors for GND in children a

BACKGROUND: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic was associated with an increase in mortality rates globally. Given the high numbers of deaths and the potentially traumatic characteristics of COVID-19 deaths, it was expected that grief-related distress would be higher in COVID-19 bereaved (compared to non-COVID-19 bereaved) people. This systematic review investigates the empirical evidence regarding this claim. More specifically, this review summarizes studies up to December 2024, evaluating the prevalence and correlates of positive and negative psychological effects of COVID-19 be

BACKGROUND: Successful recovery from alcohol use disorder requires long-term lapse risk monitoring. Self-monitoring is difficult, given the dynamic, complex interplay of the many risk factors over time. An automated recovery monitoring support system embedded with a machine learning lapse prediction model could improve sustained, adaptive, and personalized self-monitoring by delivering daily support messages.
OBJECTIVE: We propose to optimize the components included in daily support messages to increase engagement with a recovery monitoring support system.
METHODS: The participants will incl

INTRODUCTION: A growing number of community-dwelling older adults living alone face a range of physical, psychological and social challenges that negatively impact their well-being. Various technologies have been developed to support healthy ageing, with voice-activated technology (VAT) offering particularly promising opportunities to improve later life well-being. However, its effect on older adults living alone has not yet been systematically evaluated. Thus, this study aims to provide an evidence base for the effectiveness of VAT interventions in enhancing the physical, psychological and so

BACKGROUND: Suicide mortality remains a serious public health issue amongst adult males, yet there is a lack of comprehensive reviews addressing suicide risk with occupation and socioeconomic status in this selected population. This systematic review and meta-analysis synthesises data drawn from multiple countries, with the purpose of highlighting how these societal factors contribute to male suicide.
METHODS: Using PRISMA reporting guidelines, a systematic search was conducted across MEDLINE, Embase, PsycINFO, Scopus, and Web of Science for English-language studies published 1993 to 2023. St

Adults experiencing homelessness are disproportionately affected by mental health problems and the risk factors for them (i.e., adverse childhood experiences [ACEs], intimate partner violence [IPV], and cumulative trauma). However, little is known about whether there are sex/gender differences in the associations between ACEs, IPV, and cumulative trauma with mental health problems among this population. This study examined whether sex/gender moderated the association between (a) 10 widely studied ACEs or IPV or (b) cumulative trauma (i.e., cumulative ACEs, or cumulative ACEs and IPV) with ment

BACKGROUND: Infection prevention and control (IPC) measures are critical to reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections.
AIM: To identify, by consensus, specific IPC research questions where IPC evidence gaps exist, in the setting of Alberta Health Services/Covenant Health, Canada.
METHODS: A multidisciplinary committee informed the consensus process. Individuals with expertise in IPC (Delphi panel) identified an initial set of questions (Delphi Round 1). Questions were grouped into common themes and categories. The committee conducted an interim prioritization to short-list the rese
