Systemic Vasculitis Following SARS-CoV-2 mRNA Vaccination Demonstrated on FDG PET/CT.

Causality regarding adverse events following SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccine is undetermined for vasculitis. Herein, we report the case of an 80-year-old man who presented with a persistent high fever of 7 days' duration that began shortly after receiving a COVID-19 vaccination. There was also a complaint of persistent lower limb pain and walking difficulty on emergency transportation. FDG PET/CT demonstrated extensive linear hypermetabolic foci along the vessels of both legs, including the hips, and the arms, supraclavicular area, chest wall, and temporal regions, suggesting systemic vasculitis. Validation of 18F-FDG PET/MRI and diffusion-weighted MRI for estimating the extent of peritoneal carcinomatosis in ovarian and endometrial cancer -a pilot study.

BACKGROUND: The extent of peritoneal carcinomatosis is difficult to estimate preoperatively, but a valid measure would be important in identifying operable patients. The present study set out to validate the usefulness of integrated 18F-FDG PET/MRI, in comparison with diffusion-weighted MRI (DW-MRI), for estimation of the extent of peritoneal carcinomatosis in patients with gynaecological cancer. METHODS: Whole-body PET/MRI was performed on 34 patients with presumed carcinomatosis of gynaecological origin, all scheduled for surgery. Two radiologists evaluated the peritoneal cancer index (PCI)

Investigating ultra-low-dose total-body [18F]-FDG PET/CT in colorectal cancer: initial experience.

PURPOSE: This study was to evaluate the effects of an ultra-low dose of [18F]-FDG on the image quality of total-body PET/CT and its lesion detectability in colorectal cancer (CRC). METHODS: Sixty-two CRC patients who underwent total-body PET/CT (uEXPLORER, United Imaging Healthcare, Shanghai, China) with an ultra-low dose (0.37 MBq/kg) of [18F]-FDG were enrolled in this retrospective study. The PET images were reconstructed with the entire 15-min dataset first and then split into 13-, 8-, 5-, 4-, 3-, 2-, and 1-min duration groups to simulate fast scanning images. For simplicity, the images re

FDG-PET for preoperative evaluation of tumor invasion in ampullary cancer: A retrospective analysis.

BACKGROUND: Tumor invasion is the most significant prognostic factor in ampullary cancer and is thus a crucial factor in decision making for treatment. Endoscopic ultrasound can be performed to evaluate tumor invasion, but its diagnostic accuracy varies depending on the endoscopist. This study aimed to assess the usefulness of fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) for preoperatively predicting tumor invasion in ampullary cancer. METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated 44 patients with ampullary cancer (adenoma, n = 6; adenocarcinoma, n = 38) who underwent surgical resection.

18 F-FDG positron emission tomography-computed tomography has a low positive predictive value for detecting occult recurrence in asymptomatic patients with high-risk Stages IIB, IIC, and IIIA melanoma.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: High recurrence rates of Stages II and IIIA melanoma make close follow-up essential, especially with new adjuvant therapies for metastatic disease. However, there are currently no consensus guidelines for routine imaging for Stages IIB, IIC, and IIIA melanoma. The study's aim is to determine the utility of 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18 F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) for detecting asymptomatic recurrence of melanoma after primary surgical resection. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included 158 patients with the American Joint

Rare case of metastatic small cell carcinoma of the nasopharynx to the pancreas.

We present a 49-year-old woman with a history of an unresectable nasopharyngeal small cell carcinoma (SCC) who was treated with concurrent chemotherapy and radiation therapy. On surveillance positron emission tomography scan 14 months after diagnosis, her primary tumour appeared stable, but there was fludeoxyglucose uptake in the pancreas. A CT scan demonstrated a 3.4×2.1 cm ill-defined soft tissue mass at the tail of the pancreas, which was concerning for adenocarcinoma. However, further workup including endoscopic ultrasound and fine needle aspiration confirmed the mass to be a metastasis fr

Pigmented villous nodular synovitis mimicking metastases on 18F-FDG PET/CT in a patient with rectal mucosal melanoma: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Mucosal melanomas are rare and have a high potential for metastasizing. Surgical resection is the treatment of choice for single distant metastases. Malignant melanoma usually shows the highest uptake of fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG). 18F- FDG positron emission tomography /computed tomography (PET/CT) is usually used for melanoma staging. An extensive literature review revealed only 4 published case reports and an original paper involving 8 cases (12 cases in total) of patients with skin melanomas in whom pigmented villous nodular synovitis (PVNS) mimicked metastatic mel

Hyperprogressive Disease in Patients with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Treated with Checkpoint Inhibitors: The Role of 18F-FDG PET/CT.

A new pattern of response, so-called hyperprogressive disease (HPD), is emerging during treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). Our aim was to investigate the prevalence of such a phenomenon and to assess its association with clinical variables and metabolic parameters by 18F-FDG PET/CT. Methods: Data from 50 patients (34 men and 16 women; median age, 73 y) with non-small cell lung carcinoma treated with ICIs were prospectively collected. All patients underwent contrast-enhanced CT, 18F-FDG PET/CT, and complete peripheral blood sampling at baseline before ICI treatment. HPD was def

Diagnostic performance of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography in the evaluation of glioma.

INTRODUCTION: Identifying glioma grade through imaging allows clinicians to recommend and accurately direct treatment. We sought to quantify the utility of FDG-PET/CT (18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography), alone and in combination with MRI, in identifying high-grade regions of glioma. METHODS: This is a retrospective review of patients who had an FDG-PET/CT performed as part of the workup of suspected glioma or in follow-up of known glioma. FDG-PET/CT scans were reviewed and uptake in the identifiable lesion coded as none, diffusely or focally increased. Pa
