Computationally Guided Design of Magnetic Molecularly Imprinted Polymers for the Selective Determination of Pyrethroid Pesticides in Foods.

A magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer (MMIP) with high specificity for pyrethroid pesticides was successfully synthesized via a surface molecular imprinting strategy. Using fenvalerate as the template, density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed to systematically evaluate four candidate functional monomers: methacrylic acid (MAA), acrylic acid (AA), 4-vinylpyridine (4-VP), and allyl-β-cyclodextrin (allyl-β-CD). Computational analyses revealed that allyl-β-CD yields a significantly increased imprinting factor, underscoring its superior capacity to confer adsorption selectivit

Rational Engineering of Copper Ion-Coordinated Molecularly Imprinted Polymers for Synergistic Enhancement of Protein Recognition and Separation.

By creating tailor-made binding sites, molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) function as synthetic antibodies, offering comparable specificity with enhanced stability and lower cost. While molecular imprinting technology has achieved significant success with small molecules, its application to macromolecules such as proteins remains challenging. This is primarily due to the common use of aqueous solutions for protein imprinting, where key interactions like hydrogen bonding and electrostatic forces are significantly weakened. To address these limitations, this study reports the rational design

Molecularly imprinted polymers-coated magnetic covalent organic frameworks for efficient solid-phase extraction of sulfonamides in fish.

In this study, covalent organic frameworks (COFs) were grown in situ on magnetic nitrogen-doped graphene foam (MNGF), and the resulting composite of COFs-modified MNGF (MNC) was wrapped by molecularly imprinted polymers (MNC@MIPs) for specifically capturing SAs. A magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) method for SAs was established using MNC@MIPs with good magnetic responsiveness. The adsorption performance of MNC@MIPs was superior to that of non-molecularly imprinted polymers (MNC@NIPs), with shorter adsorption/desorption time and higher imprinting factors. A high-efficiency SAs analytical m

Preparation of a quartz microbalance sensor based on molecularly imprinted polymers and its application in formaldehyde detection.

Quartz crystal microbalances (QCMs) have been widely used in the food industry, environmental monitoring, and biomedicine. Here, a molecularly imprinted QCM sensor was prepared and used for formaldehyde detection. Using polyvinyl chloride as the embedding material and tetrahydrofuran as the solvent, a QCM electrode was modified with HCHO molecularly imprinted polymers (HCHO-MIPs). The detection conditions of the sensor were optimized, and its selectivity was investigated. The theoretical calculation results revealed that the acrylamide and pentaerythritol triacrylate were potential candidate f

Preparation and properties of boron affinity molecularly imprinted mesoporous polymers based on Mn-doped ZnS quantum dots.

Sialic acid (SA), known as N-acetyl neuraminic acid, is a natural 9-carbomonosaccharide derivative. SA has been widely applied in the early diagnosis of diseases as therapeutic target. However, the abundance of SA is very low in biological samples, which is usually interfered by the similar molecules coexisting at high abundance. Combining the advantages of high selectivity and specificity of molecularly imprinted technology, high specific surface area of mesoporous materials and excellent optical properties of quantum dots, we chose Mn-doped ZnS quantum dots as signal elements, and sialic aci

Molecularly imprinted polymers for the solid-phase extraction of four fluoroquilones from milk and lake water samples.

A method based on molecular crowding and ionic liquids as reaction solvents has been used for the synthesis of molecularly imprinted polymers. Levofloxacin was selected as the template, polymethyl methacrylate was the molecular crowding agent, and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (ionic liquid) was selected as the reaction solvent and porogen. The optimized proportion for the mixed porogen was dimethyl sulfoxide/ionic liquid/polymethyl methacrylate 1:1.6:5 in chloroform (150 mg mL(-1) ). The morphology and chemical composition of levofloxacin imprinted polymers were assessed by sc

Experimental and theoretical studies on the enantioselectivity of molecularly imprinted polymers prepared with a chiral functional monomer.

A comprehensive study on the enantioseparation of racemic bis[1-phenylethyl]amine (PEA) on a series of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) prepared using the chiral functional monomer (S)-2-(2-methyl-acryloylamino)-3-phenyl propionic acid (MAPP) is reported. MIP-R, MIP-S and MIP-RS, were synthesized separately by imprinting the pure enantiomers (R-, S-PEA) and racemic PEA, respectively, MAPP, EDGMA as crosslinker and chloroform as the porogen. It was found that all MIPs prepared were able to resolve the PEA racemate. Residence times (t(r)) and enantioselectivity factors (α) were estimated fr

A cost-effective and reusable impedimetric sensing platform utilizing molecularly imprinted polymers for edible oil spoilage detection.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are low-molecular-weight, high-vapor-pressure gases that readily evaporate with a distinct odor profile. In the food industry, spoilage of food products is accompanied by the release of undesirable VOCs with a rancid odor profile. Monitoring these VOCs across the farm-to-fork value chain provides crucial information on product quality and enables data-driven decision-making for consumers and stakeholders, such as logistics and cold chain operators. In particular, degradation-related VOCs in edible oils are extremely challenging to detect due to the strong mask

Chiral separation of phenoxypropionic acid herbicides via capillary electrochromatography based on dummy template-chiral molecularly imprinted polymers.

BACKGROUND: Chiral molecularly imprinted polymers (CMIPs) represent highly promising stationary phases for capillary electrochromatography (CEC), particularly in the field of chiral separation. However, current CMIPs-CEC chiral separation systems are still limited by the "one template, one target" recognition mode, which fails to meet the practical demand for broad applicability in modern chromatographic techniques. The dummy template (DT) strategy is a highly promising direction to expand the recognition scope of molecularly imprinted polymers, and holds potential for achieving wider applicat

Electrochemical platform based on Ti3C2Tx MXene-supported molecularly imprinted polymers for low-level and selective pomalidomide monitoring.

BACKGROUND: Pomalidomide (POM), a third-generation immunomodulatory drug, is widely used in the therapeutic regimen of multiple myeloma and other hematologic malignancies. Owing to its narrow therapeutic index and substantial interindividual pharmacokinetic variability, accurate quantification of POM in biological matrices is essential to optimize dosing regimens and minimize adverse effects. Conventional analytical systems like HPLC and LC-MS/MS, while highly accurate, can be time-consuming, costly, and technically demanding. RESULTS: This study covers the design of a molecularly imprinted p

Molecularly Imprinted Semiconducting Polymers for Size- and Interaction-Selective Gas Sensors Based on Organic Thin-Film Transistors.

Achieving high selectivity among chemically similar analytes remains a critical challenge for organic thin-film transistor (OTFT)-based gas sensors. We report a molecular imprinting strategy that imparts both size- and interaction-selective sensing by covalently incorporating ethanol molecules into acid-cleavable acetal side chains of the semiconducting polymer TAT-2. Subsequent HCl vapor treatment cleaves these side chains, generating subnanometer pores and free aldehyde groups in the resulting polymer TFT-2, as confirmed by FTIR analysis. These structural features facilitate selective diffus

A Sensor Array Based on Molecularly Imprinted Polymers and Machine Learning for the Analysis of Fluoroquinolone Antibiotics.

Fluoroquinolones (FQs) are one of the most important types of antibiotics in the clinical, poultry, and aquaculture industries, and their monitoring is required as the abuse has led to severe issues, such as antibiotic residues and antimicrobial resistance. In this study, we report a voltammetric electronic tongue (ET) for the simultaneous determination of ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, and moxifloxacin in both pharmaceutical and biological samples. The ET comprises four sensors modified with three different customized molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) and a nonimprinted polymer integrated w

Developing a generally applicable electrochemical sensor for detecting macrolides in water with thiophene-based molecularly imprinted polymers.

Our screening data revealed the threat macrolide antibiotics, especially azithromycin (AZN), posed to human health with its increasing occurrence in water environment. The electrochemical sensor based on molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) is a promising platform that caters for the next generation of intelligent wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) by virtue of its wide tolerance to water from all sources and in-situ monitoring. However, low initiation potentials of cross-linking monomers contributed by the electron-rich circumstance allowed them to usurp sites designed for functional monomers

Synthesis and application of molecularly imprinted polymers for the selective extraction of organophosphorus pesticides from vegetable oils.

The increasing use of pesticides in agriculture causes environmental issues and possible serious health risks to humans and animals. Their determination at trace concentrations in vegetable oils constitutes a significant analytical challenge. Therefore, their analysis often requires both an extraction and a purification step prior to separation with liquid chromatography (LC) and mass spectrometry (MS) detection. This work aimed at developing sorbents that are able to selectively extract from vegetable oil samples several organophosphorus (OPs) pesticides presenting a wide range of physico-che

Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Nanoparticles for Reducing Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 Infection.

Molecularly imprinted polymer nanoparticles (nanoMIPs) were synthesized via solid-phase imprinting for the selective recognition and inhibition of herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). An optimized copolymer composition yielded spherical nanoMIPs with a hydrodynamic diameter of 146 ± 4 nm, comparable to that of HSV-2 virions (94 ± 6 nm). Electrochemical analysis showed a 3-fold higher current shift for HSV-2-imprinted nanoMIPs compared to nonimprinted controls, confirming enhanced binding ability toward HSV-2. The nanoMIPs exhibited highly preferential recognition of HSV-2 over related viruses,

Rapid detection of airborne fungal contamination using a molecularly imprinted polymer approach for ergosterol.

Fungi are major biological contaminants in indoor air, and their concentration is typically assessed using the culture-based CFU method, which is labor-intensive and time-consuming. Ergosterol, a major fungal cell membrane component, has emerged as a preferred target for alternative analytical approaches. However, ergosterol is highly hydrophobic, and specific affinity probes such as antibodies or aptamers have not yet been successfully developed. In this study, we fabricated ergosterol-specific probes using molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) immobilized on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and integ
