Evaluation of the cultural, health-related, and structural barriers to blood donation among women in Saudi Arabia: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Blood transfusion is a critical component of healthcare systems worldwide, yet maintaining adequate blood supplies remains challenging, particularly when voluntary donation rates are low. In Saudi Arabia, women are markedly underrepresented among blood donors despite national efforts to promote donation. Understanding the cultural, social, and physiological factors influencing women's participation is essential for developing effective, gender-sensitive strategies. METHODS: A cross-sectional, online survey was conducted among Saudi women aged 18-65 years between April and Septembe

Integrating factors associated with complex wound healing into a mobile application: Findings from a cohort study.

Complex, chronic or hard-to-heal wounds are a prevalent health problem worldwide, with significant physical, psychological and social consequences. This study aims to identify factors associated with the healing process of these wounds and develop a mobile application for wound care that incorporates these factors. A prospective multicentre cohort study was conducted in nine health units in Portugal, involving data collection through a mobile application by nurses from April to October 2022. The study followed 46 patients with 57 wounds for up to 5 weeks, conducting six evaluations. Healing ti

Strengthening rural pandemic preparedness: Lessons from Nova Scotia's COVID-19 response for pharmacy practice.

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed longstanding structural inequities in rural health care systems, including shortages of primary care providers, transportation barriers, geographic isolation, workforce limitations, and unequal access to digital health technologies. Rather than creating these challenges, the pandemic magnified existing weaknesses that limited equitable access to testing, vaccination, chronic disease management, and preventive health care. Nova Scotia provides an informative Public Health Mobile Units (PHMU) implementation of how innovative, community-based models of care can mitig

Cluster randomized trial of a mHealth intervention "ImTeCHO" to improve delivery of proven maternal, neonatal, and child care interventions through community-based Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) by enhancing their motivation and strengthening supervision in tribal areas of Gujarat, India: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: To facilitate the delivery of proven maternal, neonatal, and child health (MNCH) services, a new cadre of village-based frontline workers, called the Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), was created in 2005 under the aegis of the National Rural Health Mission in India. Evaluations have noted that coverage of selected MNCH services to be delivered by the ASHAs is low. Reasons for low coverage are inadequate supervision and support to ASHAs apart from insufficient skills, poor quality of training, and complexity of tasks to be performed. The proposed study aims to implement an

Delivering integrated strategies from a mobile unit to address the intertwining epidemics of HIV and addiction in people who inject drugs: the HPTN 094 randomized controlled trial protocol (the INTEGRA Study).

BACKGROUND: Persons with opioid use disorders who inject drugs (PWID) in the United States (US) face multiple and intertwining health risks. These include interference with consistent access, linkage, and retention to health care including medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD), HIV prevention using pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Most services, when available, including those that address substance misuse, HIV prevention, and STIs, are often provided in multiple locations that may be difficult to access, which further c

Hidden in plain sight: the fourth UN High-Level Meeting on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases and the Promotion of Mental Health and Well-being missed the mark on chronic pain and mobility impairment.

The fourth United Nations High-Level Meeting on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) and Promotion of Mental Health and Well-Being developed a timely Political Declaration intended to accelerate progress among Member States towards the targets of Sustainable Development Goal 3.4. The Declaration emphasises appropriate cross-cutting actions for prevention and control of NCDs generally, yet over the consultation period, it evolved to include a range of specific diseases beyond the SDG 3.4 targets. The Declaration omits explicit attention to chronic pain and mobility impa

Development and use of mobile containment units for the evaluation and treatment of potential Ebola virus disease patients in a United States hospital.

Ebola virus disease (EVD) has been the subject of recent attention due to the current outbreak in West Africa, as well as the appearance of a number of cases within the United States. The presence of EVD patients in the United States required health care systems to prepare for the identification and management of both patients under investigation and patients with confirmed EVD infection. This article discusses the development and use of a mobile containment unit in an extended treatment area as a novel approach to isolation and screening of potential EVD patients.

[In France. Progress in oral hygiene].

Starting from a very low level, (50 million Frenchmen only bought 10 millions toothbrushes in 1961) the French Union for oral health ( UFSBD ) played an important role in the improvements registered in the last 15 years. After analysing several foreign experiments, particularly the Danish one, the UFSBD decided that its starting point would be oral health education. To this effect it created a network of Committees which covered the entire national territory. The Ministry of Health allowed the UFSBD to visit schools. Two standard lessons illustrated with slides were prepared. In a second phase

Emergency Preparedness and Management of Mobile Cabin Hospitals in China During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The healthcare systems in China and globally have faced serious challenges during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The shortage of beds in traditional hospitals has exacerbated the threat of COVID-19. To increase the number of available beds, China implemented a special public health measure of opening mobile cabin hospitals. Mobile cabin hospitals, also called Fangcang shelter hospitals, refer to large-scale public venues such as indoor stadiums and exhibition centers converted to temporary hospitals. This study is a mini review of the practice of mobile cabin hospitals in China.
