Multiple myeloma (MM) diagnosis requires ≥10% plasma cell (PC) infiltration in the bone marrow (BM), detected by bone marrow aspiration (BMA) or biopsy (BMB). We evaluated the concordance of these 2 techniques in 189 patients. In 43 cases (23%), the techniques were discordant, 10 due to poor sample quality. INTRODUCTION: Subungual hematomas are fingertip injuries, generally secondary to blunt trauma, that cause pain due to an accumulation of blood under the fingernail. It is generally considered standard of practice to relieve this accumulation by means of trephination with a hollow tip needle, a heated paper clip, or electrocautery. It has been assumed that due to the flammable properties of acrylic, trephination via electrocautery has the potential to ignite acrylic nails and cause burns and other potentially serious injury, making electrocautery contraindicated in patients with acrylic nails.

AIMS: BRAF V600E detection assists in the diagnosis of hairy cell leukaemia (HCL); however, testing practices vary. We evaluated the clinical utility of 5 BRAF mutation testing strategies for use on bone marrow trephines (BMT).

PURPOSE: To evaluate the outcome of penetrating keratoplasties using the Hanna Corneal Trephine System.
METHODS: Fifty-five patients out of 70, who had penetrating keratoplasty performed by a single surgeon (KHO), from 1995 to 2001, were reviewed in 2002, at Department of Ophthalmology, Hospital of Hilleroed, Denmark. Autogenous cancellous bone grafting is a common procedure in maxillofacial surgery. Open harvesting usually results in a long scar and considerable morbidity, but harvesting using a trephine can be done through a smaller scar with minimal morbidity. This study was undertaken in 102 adult patients to evaluate the safety and efficacy of intravenous (i.v.) midazolam in the setting of bone marrow aspiration and trephine biopsy (BMAT).
