An inverted schneiderian papilloma (ISP) is a rare neoplasm that affects the nasal cavity or a paranasal sinus, especially the maxillary sinus. Although histologically benign, the lesion has a high potential for local destruction, has a high recurrence rate, and presents the possibility of malignant transformation into squamous cell carcinoma. To determine the extent of the injury and possible impairment of adjacent maxillofacial structures, accurate imaging, such as cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), is necessary. A 47-year-old man reported a nasal obstruction on the right side of his face

BACKGROUND: Maxillary posterior tooth region is an important area with respect to periapical surgery, implant placement, and sinus lifts. Posterior superior alveolar artery (PSAA) is located on the lateral wall of maxillary sinus and may become injured during such surgical procedures. Therefore, knowledge of the subject is essential to a clinician. The goal was to determine the anatomical relationship of posterior superior alveolar artery to the floor of maxillary sinus and alveolar crest. In our study we attempted to present the locations and course of posterior superior alveolar artery (PSAA

BACKGROUND: The keratocystic odontogenic tumour (KCOT), formerly known as the odontogenic keratocyst, is a benign intra-osseous odontogenic tumour. The KCOT is characterised by a potential for locally destructive behaviour and a relatively high recurrence rate. Most KCOT are incidentally discovered as well-defined unilocular or multilocular radiolucencies on routine panoramic radiographs.
CASE REPORT: A 15-year-old boy was referred to dental care with a non-syndromic KCOT in the right angle of the mandible. Using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) as a diagnostic instrument for precise asse

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether cone beam computed tomography filters would improve periimplant dehiscence detection.
STUDY DESIGN: A hundred titanium implants were placed in bovine ribs in which defects simulating periimplant dehiscence had previously been created. After images acquisition, three oral radiologists assessed them with and without the following filters: Angio Sharpen high 5 × 5, Shadow, Sharpen 3 × 3, Sharpen Mild, and Smooth. The McNemar test verified the disagreement between all images versus the reference standard and original images versus images with filters; P < .05 was

Conventional radiographic images are frequently used to detect supernumerary teeth. However, recent developments in 3D imaging systems have enabled dentists to better visualize supernumerary teeth, with better contrast and more details. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) has improved diagnosis and treatment planning of patients with supernumerary teeth. The decision to use CBCT should be based on the diagnostic information required. This article presents three case reports of patients with supernumerary teeth to demonstrate the need for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning based on a co

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to combine the huge amount of information of low dose Cone Beam CT with a cephalometric simplified protocol thanks to the latest informatics aids. Lateral cephalograms are two-dimensional (2-D) radiographs that are used to represent three-dimensional (3-D) structures. Cephalograms have inherent limitations as a result of distortion, super imposition and differential magnification of the craniofacial complex. This may lead to errors of identification and reduced measurement accuracy. The advantages of CBCT over conventional CT include low radiation exposure,

There are many limitations to image acquisition, using conventional radiography, of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) region. The Computed Tomography (CT) scan is a better option, due to its higher accuracy, for purposes of diagnosis, surgical planning and treatment of bone injuries. The aim of the present study was to analyze two protocols of cone beam computed tomography for the evaluation of simulated mandibular condyle bone lesions. Spherical lesions were simulated in 30 dry mandibular condyles, using dentist drills and drill bits sizes 1, 3 and 6. Each of the mandibular condyles was submi

Three-dimensional (3D) imaging techniques can provide valuable information to clinicians and researchers. But as we move from traditional 2-dimensional (2D) cephalometric analysis to new 3D techniques, it is often necessary to compare 2D with 3D data. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) provides simulation tools that can help bridge the gap between image types. CBCT acquisitions can be made to simulate panoramic, lateral, and posteroanterior cephalometric radioagraphs so that they can be compared with preexisting cephalometric databases. Applications of 3D imaging in orthodontics include init
