BACKGROUND: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic mucosal inflammation of the large intestine that mostly affects the rectum and colon. The absence of safe and effective therapeutic agents encourages the discovery of novel therapeutic agents to effectively treat UC and its complications.
