International evidence-based recommendations for point-of-care lung ultrasound : 2025 focused update of the 2012 recommendations.

PURPOSE: Since the publication of the previous consensus document on point-of-care lung ultrasound (PoCLUS) in 2012, new evidence has emerged. This consensus aims to update current recommendations by focusing on the clinical applications of PoCLUS as a standalone tool, while acknowledging that this focused approach represents a necessary preliminary step toward its effective integration with other organ-specific ultrasound examinations and complementary diagnostic modalities. METHODS: A Delphi-based consensus process was conducted under the supervision of a Steering Committee (five voting mem

Diagnostic and therapeutic workup of male infertility: results from a Delphi consensus panel.

Male factor infertility (MFI) is a rising issue worldwide with significant socioeconomic costs and negative psychological consequences for the couple. Current guidelines provide recommendations for its diagnosis and treatment but several gaps in the management of MFI are encountered in clinical practice due to the lack of available evidence in published literature. Uncertainty in the management of MFI cases leads to a high degree of variability in therapeutic approaches. We planned a Delphi consensus method to provide insights and help bridge the gaps that separate clinical guidelines from rea

Survey of U.S. reproductive medicine clinicians' attitudes on polygenic embryo screening.

Polygenic embryo screening (PES) is used to screen embryos for their genetic likelihood of developing complex conditions and traits. We surveyed 152 U.S. reproductive endocrinology and infertility specialists (REIs) on their views of PES. While most respondents (97%) were at least slightly familiar with PES, general approval of PES was low (12%), with the majority expressing disapproval (46%) or uncertainty (42%). A majority (58%) believed risks outweigh benefits, while only 16% felt benefits outweigh risks. Most clinicians (85-77%) were very or extremely concerned about low accuracy, confusio

Management of Patients with Advanced Prostate Cancer. Report from the 2024 Advanced Prostate Cancer Consensus Conference (APCCC).

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Innovations have improved outcomes in advanced prostate cancer (PC). Nonetheless, we continue to lack high-level evidence on a variety of topics that greatly impact daily practice. The 2024 Advanced Prostate Cancer Consensus Conference (APCCC) surveyed experts on key questions in clinical management in order to supplement evidence-based guidelines. Here we present voting results for questions from APCCC 2024. METHODS: Before the conference, a panel of 120 international PC experts used a modified Delphi process to develop 183 multiple-choice consensus questions on eig

How voter turnout varies between different chronic conditions? A population-based register study.

BACKGROUND: While poor self-rated health is known to decrease an individual's propensity to vote, disaggregation of the components of health on turnout has thus far received only little attention. This study deepens on the understanding of such relationships by examining the association between chronic diseases and voting. METHODS: The study uses an individual-level register-based data set that contains an 11% random sample of the entire electorate in the 1999 Finnish parliamentary elections. With information on hospital discharge diagnoses and reimbursements for drugs prescribed, we identify

Electoral governance as a political determinant of health: state policy context, risk perception, and voter safety.

BACKGROUND: Electoral governance is a critical political determinant of health, yet the institutional mechanisms shaping population risk remain understudied. During the 2020 U.S. general election, local officials were responsible for administering voting amid COVID 19 threats and within uneven state electoral structures. Understanding how these political institutions influence officials' perceptions of voter safety and related actions is essential for characterizing the political determinants of health. METHODS: We analyzed data from an October 2020 national CivicPulse survey of 493 local off

The political fallout of air pollution.

This paper studies the effect of air pollution on voting outcomes. We use data from 60 federal and state elections in Germany from 2000 to 2018 and exploit plausibly exogenous fluctuations in ambient air pollution within counties across election dates. Higher air pollution on election day shifts votes away from incumbent parties and toward opposition parties. An increase in the concentration of particulate matter (PM10) by 10 [Formula: see text]g/m[Formula: see text]-around two within-county SDs-reduces the vote share of incumbent parties by two percentage points, which is equivalent to 4% of

European Expert Consensus on Essential Variables for Teledermatological Assessment of Skin Tumours.

Teledermatology is increasingly used for the assessment of suspicious skin tumours, yet referral content remains poorly standardized. To develop a European expert consensus on the essential clinical and visual variables required for teledermatological assessment of primary skin tumours. A 3-round modified Delphi study was conducted among experienced dermatologists. In round 1, participants proposed essential variables. In round 2, variables were rated for essentiality, clinical relevance and feasibility. In round 3, binary voting was used to define final consensus. Consensus was predefined as

Needs and Concerns Regarding a Pediatric Palliative Telehealth App for Use in Palliative Home Care for Adults Among Providers in Germany: Embedded Mixed Methods Study.

BACKGROUND: Specialized outpatient palliative care (SOPC) provides home-based care for terminally ill patients and is associated with improved quality of life and prolonged survival. Due to its decentralized structure and growing demand, SOPC is a key target for digital transformation. Telehealth, mobile health, and AI offer considerable potential benefits but also present challenges, particularly with regard to user acceptance. Although both children and adults receive SOPC under the German statutory health insurance system, services differ in terms of patient characteristics, duration of car

Construction of an intelligent screening model for allergic rhinitis based on routine blood tests.

The incidence of allergic rhinitis (AR) has been increasing annually, severely impacting patients' quality of life and increasing socioeconomic burdens. The limitations of current diagnostic methods have made the development of efficient, low-cost early screening tools urgent. Based on routine blood test data, this study employed an ensemble hard voting strategy, a comprehensive filtering strategy, an embedding strategy, and a packing strategy to select 16 highly correlated features with a frequency of at least two occurrences as model inputs. Subsequently, the top three machine learning algor
