Effect of allogenic demineralized dentin matrix vs. xenograft in maxillary sinus floor augmentation: A randomized split-mouth study.

INTRODUCTION: Maxillary sinus floor augmentation (MSFA) is commonly required in posterior maxillary atrophy. This study compared allogenic demineralized dentin matrix (ADDM) with a xenograft in MSFA. METHODS: In this randomized split-mouth trial, nine patients underwent bilateral MSFA with ADDM on one side and a xenograft on the other. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) was used to assess bone height and density at baseline and at six months. Core biopsies were obtained for histologic analysis. RESULTS: Both groups showed significant increases in bone height and density (P<0.001). Mean bon

Histomorphometric outcome following sinus floor augmentation with allogeneic adipose tissue-derived stem cells. A randomized controlled experimental study.

The aim of this pre-clinical study was to test the hypothesis of no difference in histomorphometric outcome following sinus floor augmentation (SFA) with allogeneic adipose tissue-derived stem cells (AASCs) seeded on deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) (test) compared with excipient on DBBM (control). Eighteen minipigs were allocated into three groups of six animals and euthanised after one month (T1), two months (T2), and four months (T3). The sinuses of each animal were randomly assigned to either test or control with identical graft volume. Percentage of newly formed bone (NFB), non-mi

Equine-derived bone mineral matrix for maxillary sinus floor augmentation: a clinical, radiographic, histologic, and histomorphometric case series.

The objective of this proof-of-principle multicenter case series was to examine the bone regenerative potential of a newly introduced equine-derived bone mineral matrix (Equimatrix) to provide human sinus augmentation for the purpose of implant placement in the posterior maxilla. There were 10 patients requiring 12 maxillary sinus augmentations enrolled in this study. Histologic results at 6 months demonstrated abundant amounts of vital new bone in intimate contact with residual graft particles. Active bridging between residual graft particles with newly regenerated bone was routinely observed

Maxillary sinus floor augmentation surgery with autogenous bone grafts as ceiling: a pilot study and test of principle.

BACKGROUND: Studies have pointed out that the mere elevation of the maxillary sinus membrane might suffice to allow for bone formation indicating the additional use of augmentation materials to be redundant. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to assess whether elevation of the sinus mucosal lining combined with applying an autologous bone graft as a ceiling and placement of a short implant would allow for bone formation around the implant thus surpassing the need for applying augmentation materials around the installed implants. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fourteen consecutive patients were s

Simultaneous implant placement in sinus floor augmentation using iliac bone block grafts in severe maxillary atrophies: case report.

The placement of implants requires adequate basic conditions. Insufficient bone height and width in the area of the maxilla, because of expansion of the maxillary sinus and atrophic resorption of the alveolar ridge, represent a common anatomical complication, which can be solved by augmentation of the floor of the maxillary sinus. It is commonly shared that autologous bone graft is the gold standard method in the augmentation of the Higmoro antrum. The reconstruction of atrophies with adequate bone volume and density has become a viable treatment option with high predictability and success rat

Biology of sinus floor augmentation with an autograft versus a bone graft substitute in a preclinical in vivo experimental model.

OBJECTIVES: Compared to autografts, bone graft substitutes are slower to consolidate. If we understood why, this might open strategies to accelerate new bone formation and thus shorten the time to implant placement. In this study, we aimed at comparing autologous bone graft with a bovine bone graft substitute in a preclinical sinus lift model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The mouse posterior paranasal sinus served as a recipient site for grafting. Autograft from the oral cavity was compared against bone graft substitute using molecular, cellular, and histological analyses conducted on post-grafting

The use of cancellous block allograft for sinus floor augmentation with simultaneous implant placement in the posterior atrophic maxilla.

BACKGROUND: The simultaneous placement of dental implants during sinus augmentation is advocated in cases in which >or=4 to 5 mm of alveolar bone exists coronally to the sinus floor. The aim of the present study was to assess the survival rate of dental implants placed during sinus augmentation and stabilized by the use of cancellous freeze-dried block allograft. Residual alveolar ridge height <or=4 mm was an inclusion criteria. METHODS: Twenty-eight consecutive patients (13 females and 15 males) aged between 25 and 65 years (mean, 54 +/- 9 years) were referred for implant-supported reconstru

Retrieval of Displaced Implant Attributable to an Ill-Fitting Denture From the Maxillary Sinus Six Months After Transcrestal Sinus Floor Augmentation and Implant Placement.

INTRODUCTION: Asymptomatic displacement of dental implants into the maxillary sinus after a transcrestal sinus augmentation is a rare complication that can occur when there is poor bone quality and minimal residual bone height. Patient compliance with postoperative appointments and failure to comply with denture-wearing instructions are critical contributing factors. To the best of the authors' knowledge, no cases of implant dislodgement attributable to a removable prosthesis have been reported in the literature, although some studies have suggested that improper occlusal forces can cause a lo
