High intention, low uptake: HPV vaccination knowledge, attitudes, and behavior among women attending a tertiary gynecology clinic in Turkey.

BACKGROUND: HPV vaccination prevents cervical cancer, yet uptake remains variable, particularly where it is not publicly funded. We assessed HPV knowledge, attitudes, and vaccination behavior - including stated intention, actual uptake, and reasons for non-vaccination - among women attending a gynecology clinic in Istanbul, Turkey. METHODS: This cross-sectional study enrolled 305 women aged ≥ 18 years at the gynecology clinic of Yeditepe University Hospital between January and April 2026. A structured questionnaire assessed sociodemographics, HPV and vaccine knowledge (scored 0-10 and 0-6), a

Detection of circulating tumor HPV-DNA in patients with HPV-positive sinonasal and nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Approximately 30% of sinonasal and nasopharyngeal carcinoma cases are HPV-associated, yet studies investigating circulating tumor HPV-DNA (ctHPV-DNA) among these patients are scarce. The aim of this study was to investigate the sensitivity of ctHPV-DNA in pretreatment blood samples from patients with HPV-positive (HPV+) sinonasal and nasopharyngeal carcinoma. METHODS: Patients with a confirmed HPV+ sinonasal or nasopharyngeal carcinoma treated at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and Audiology at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark in the period 2017-202

Implementing single-dose HPV vaccination in Canada.

The World Health Organization and the National Advisory Committee on Immunization now recommend a single-dose HPV vaccine schedule for most immunocompetent adolescents. As Canadian jurisdictions transition to a single-dose schedule, we apply a social and behavioral science lens and draw on lessons from previous vaccine schedule changes and international experience to identify potential challenges and opportunities associated with this transition. Key implementation considerations include maintaining public confidence through transparent communication about the rationale for the schedule change

Evaluating Chinese large language models for HIV/AIDS health information: a multidimensional comparative study of response quality.

BACKGROUND: Chinese large language models (LLMs) are increasingly used for HIV/AIDS health information, yet their multidimensional performance remains unevaluated. This study systematically assessed five mainstream Chinese LLMs across accuracy, caring, completeness, understandability, and actionability. METHODS: A cross-sectional evaluation was conducted using 50 standardized HIV/AIDS questions. Each model's responses were rated by three independent experts on five dimensions, including adapted PEMAT-based items. Latent profile analysis (LPA) and partial correlation network analysis were empl

Development of a Behavioral Intervention, Increasing HPV Vaccine Uptake-Delivered in Dental Settings (HPV Vaccine Uptake-DDS).

We developed a behavioral intervention designed to address barriers faced by dental practitioners promoting the Human Papillomavirus vaccine to eligible patients. Guided by the Behavior Change Wheel; our approach included a rapid literature review and interviews with dental practitioners to identify and understand these barriers. We then applied the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation and Behavior model and the Theoretical Domains Framework to identify and specify draft intervention functions which were mapped to the Behavior Change Technique Taxonomy. These functions target key barriers, in p

"Sisters Influencing Sisters:" Findings from a Community-Engaged Process to Develop a Social Media-Based, Influencer-Delivered Intervention to Increase PrEP Awareness, Knowledge, and Uptake Among Transgender Women.

Transgender women (TW) shoulder a disproportionate burden of HIV diagnoses, yet are less likely to use PrEP, due to intersectional social and structural barriers to accessing services. TW utilize social media to share health information and foster community, yet to date, most studies leveraging the power of these platforms for PrEP interventions have focused on gay men. To address this gap, we partnered with TW social media influencers and engaged a Community Advisory Board (CAB) to develop an Instagram-based intervention to increase PrEP awareness, knowledge, and use among TW. Over quarterly

HIV-associated extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma, nasal type: a case report and literature review.

Extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTCL) is a rare aggressive lymphoma whose management is complicated by HIV-1 co-infection due to drug-drug interactions and overlapping toxicities, specifically the convergent hepatorenal and hematological toxicities resulting from the concurrent use of chemotherapeutic regimens and ART. We report a middle-aged HIV-1 positive man (CD4+ T cells:198/μL, HIV-1 RNA:9.70×10³ copies/mL) with stage IE ENKTCL nasal type, whose initial nasal congestion was repeatedly misdiagnosed as sinusitis. An integrase strand transfer inhibitor-based (INSTIs) ART was unaffordable, a

Cure as process, not product: What Brazilian communities can teach HIV cure research.

Biomedical HIV cure research has largely defined cure through virological endpoints, often overlooking how communities understand, imagine, and produce knowledge about it. Drawing on Brazilian histories of HIV activism, community engagement, and artistic practice, and on the author's situated experience as a community educator in cure research, this commentary argues that communities should be recognised not merely as participants but as knowledge producers who shape research questions, priorities, and definitions of success. It situates this argument within the fragmented HIV cure research la

The role of 2'-5'-oligoadenylate synthetase (OAS) proteins in HIV infection: innate antiviral immunity, viral persistence, and therapeutic opportunities.

Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) establishes persistent infection despite robust innate immune responses and effective antiretroviral therapy, highlighting the importance of host antiviral mechanisms in regulating viral replication and persistence. Among interferon-stimulated genes, 2'-5'-oligoadenylate synthetase 1 (OAS1) is a key antiviral effector that senses viral double-stranded RNA and activates the OAS-RNase L pathway. Beyond its canonical antiviral activity, emerging evidence implicates OAS1 in immune regulation, viral latency, neuroinflammation, and retroviral disease progr

Incidence and predictors of mother-to-child transmission of HIV among HIV-exposed infants in public General hospitals of Tigray, Ethiopia, 2020: Retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) remains a major public health challenge, particularly in low-income countries. Previous studies conducted in Ethiopia were largely limited to single health facilities and did not adequately assess important predictors, including maternal viral load, paternal enrollment in antiretroviral therapy (ART), and breastfeeding duration. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the incidence and predictors of MTCT of HIV among HIV-exposed infants in public general hospitals of Tigray, Ethiopia. METHODS: Hospital-base

[Inconsistent condom use with regular and casual partners among men who have sex with men in Brazil: a respondent-driven sampling study].

We aimed to analyze the factors associated with inconsistent condom use among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Brazil. This cross-sectional study was carried out with adult MSM, recruited via respondent-driven sampling in 12 Brazilian capitals in 2016. Inconsistent condom use was measured by insertive and receptive anal intercourse in the previous six months and in the last sexual intercourse. The association between the independent variables and inconsistent condom use was measured using Poisson regression with robust variance and the estimation of adjusted prevalence ratios and 95% confide
