A Case of CHARGE Syndrome with a Novel Intronic Variant in the CHD7 Gene.

CHARGE syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder caused by variations in the CHD7 gene. The characteristic findings of the syndrome include coloboma (C), heart anomalies (H), choanal atresia (A), growth and developmental delay (R), genitourinary system anomalies (G), and ear anomalies and/or hearing loss (E). A 7.7-years-old male patient was initially referred after a partial empty sella appearance was noted on brain imaging during evaluation for developmental delay at 10 months of age. He had undergone surgery for choanal atresia and congenital heart disease. The patient exhibited severe pos

Expanding the Genetic Landscape of RASopathies: Significance of Including NF1 in Targeted Panels.

INTRODUCTION: RASopathies are genetic disorders linked to the RAS/MAPK signaling pathway, including Noonan syndrome and related conditions. These disorders have overlapping features and variable phenotypes, making diagnosis challenging. This study examines the clinical and genetic characteristics of RASopathies in pediatric patients to improve diagnostic accuracy and identify novel pathogenic variants. METHODS: A total of 23 patients, who were not related to each other and were clinically diagnosed with RASopathy, participated in the study. Patients underwent next-generation sequencing (NGS)

Infected type 1 congenital upper lip sinus in 8 years child: A rare case report.

A congenital lip sinus is a rare condition, also known as a lip pit or dimples. The lower lip sinus is more frequently observed with a prevalence of approximately 0.001% in general populations, while the upper lip sinus is even rarer with not more than 70 documented cases in English medical literature. These sinuses can be located at various positions on the lip, including midline, paramedian, or lateral, on either the upper or lower lip. In some cases, lip pits are associated with other congenital anomalies such as cleft lip or cleft palate or both. In this particular case, an 8-year-old girl

Expanding the Clinical Phenotype Associated with the NIN Gene; Report of a Patient with Short Stature, Microcephaly and Hearing Loss.

To date, there are very few reports regarding patients with bi-allelic variants in the NIN gene. There is one report of two sisters with severe short stature, microcephaly, and developmental delay with compound heterozygote missense variants in the NIN gene and one paper reporting a homozygote variant in the NIN gene with progressive, high-frequency sensorineural hearing loss in four siblings. The only other report is of four members of a consanguineous family with spondyloepimetaphyseal dysplasia with joint laxity-leptodactylic type (SEMDJL2) with a homozygous variant in the NIN gene. A Clinical Study of 2253 Cases of Primary and Secondary Defects Associated With Non-Syndromic Orofacial Clefts in Somalia: The First Report of Charity Operation by the Bela Risu Foundation in Somalia.

Cleft lip and/or palate deformities impose a significant burden on families, particularly in low-income communities. Somalia, characterized by an under-resourced healthcare system, encounters unique healthcare challenges from other regions. These challenges complicate the management and treatment of cleft lip and/or palate, highlighting the need for tailored healthcare strategies to address the specific needs of this population. However, a comprehensive understanding of the patterns and distribution of these deformities in Somalia remains limited. This retrospective cross-sectional study analy

Tessier Facial Clefts.

Less-common congenital facial clefts were originally described by Tessier and bear his name and classification system. These clefts are limited to the primary and secondary palate and involve other regions of the face other than simply the lips, palate, and nose. They are also among the more complex of facial anomalies, affecting both soft tissues and skeletal structures, which presents difficulties for surgical correction.

Correction of Nostril Asymmetry in Asians Secondary Unilateral Cleft Lip Nasal Deformity Based on Novel Nostril Ring Concept.

BACKGROUND: Asymmetry of the bilateral nostrils is one of the most common deformities associated with secondary unilateral cleft lip nasal deformity. In this study, we introduce a novel concept of the "nostril ring" and propose a series of corrective strategies based on the anatomical characteristics of the nostril ring and the factors influencing its morphology. METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted of 114 patients who underwent secondary cleft rhinoplasty between January 2021 and January 2024. Surgical techniques included correction of columellar deviation, adjustment of alar skin,

Pediatric Septoplasty: Benefits, Challenges, and Clinical Recommendations-Comprehensive Review of Young ESPO.

This comprehensive review examines the role of septoplasty in the pediatric population, emphasizing its therapeutic significance in relieving nasal obstruction and facilitating normal craniofacial growth. Despite the evident advantages of septoplasty, its application in young patients remains a subject of ongoing debate. This issue is primarily characterized by concerns regarding the still-developing immaturity of nasal cartilage, potential intraoperative and postoperative risks, and the current absence of robust data on long-term outcomes following septoplasty. Common complications such as bl

Congenital Arrhinia with Profound Hearing Loss and Complete Cleft Palate: A Challenging Triad.

Congenital arrhinia (CA) is an infrequent condition with hypoplasia of internal and external nasal passages. This, along with a complete cleft palate and profound hearing loss, constitutes a problematic challenge to rehabilitate the airway, speech and hearing. Aplasia of the nose is also associated with various other congenital anomalies, such as midline defects, olfactory agenesis and structural abnormalities in the brain. The patients are predisposed to respiratory and feeding problems at birth and need early intervention for the same. Bosma Arhinia Microphthalmia (BAM) syndrome is its most
