Thurston syndrome (oro-facial-digital syndrome type V) is an autosomal recessive condition characterized by median cleft of the upper lip, postaxial polydactyly of hands and feet, and oral manifestations. According to earlier reports, the syndrome is predominantly seen in subjects of Indian descent. We report a cast of Thurston syndrome in a 13-year-old south Indian boy who presented with oral features, incomplete median cleft of upper lip, and polydactyly of both hands and left foot. A precise clinical differentiation must be made since considerable overlap of the features of the various othe

We report on 37 patients belonging to different families, who have the tibial hemimelia-split hand/foot syndrome. Genetic aspects and phenotypic manifestations are compared with previous reports of tibial hemimelia. An attempt to clinical and genetical approach is suggested.

We identified a family with 10 affected members in four generations suffering from adult-onset progressive sinoatrial and atrioventricular conduction disease, sudden death due to ventricular tachyarrhythmia, dilated cardiomyopathy, and a unique type of brachydactyly with mild hand involvement (short distal, middle, proximal phalanges and clinodactyly) and more severe foot involvement (short distal, proximal phalanges and metatarsal bones, short or absent middle phalanges, terminal symphalangism, duplication of the bases of the second metatarsals, extra ossicles, and syndactyly). The phenotype

Regorafenib is a multikinase inhibitor commonly used in the management of hepatocellular carcinoma, gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), and colorectal cancer. It is also used off-label for progressive or metastatic osteosarcoma, which is the most common primary bone malignancy in children and adolescents. While hand-foot skin reaction (HFSR) is a well-documented side effect associated with regorafenib use, no standard guidelines currently exist for preventing and managing regorafenib-associated HFSR in children, or for HFSR and hand-foot syndrome related to other chemotherapy agents. We pr

We report on 3 individuals, a man and his son and daughter, who were born with preaxial deficiencies of the hands and feet and postaxial polydactyly of the hands. Both males also had glandular hypospadias. Certain of these findings resemble those found in the hand-foot-genital syndrome; however, we conclude that this family has a hitherto unreported autosomal dominant condition. Production by a single gene defect of preaxial deficiencies and postaxial polydactyly in the same individual is of note.

In this report we present another family with oligosymptomatic expression of the EEC syndrome. A mother with complete absence of the permanent teeth had two children with split hand/split foot deformity, as typically seen in the EEC syndrome. Cleft lip/cleft palate was also present in one of them. The great variability in expression of this autosomal dominant syndrome is discussed and the difficulties in genetic counseling are emphasized.

The acrocephalosyndactyly syndromes (ACS) are a group of clinically similar disorders that share the manifestations of craniosynostosis and a variety of hand and foot anomalies. Here we report on a 5-generation kindred segregating sagittal craniosynostosis and syndactyly of the fingers and the toes in an autosomal dominant manner. The anomalies seen in this kindred comprise a syndrome distinct from other craniosynostosis syndromes. For this novel syndrome, we propose the name craniosynostosis, Philadelphia type.

We report a patient with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and mitral valve infective endocarditis. The case was complicated due to multiorgan involvement and initially diagnosed as hand-foot-and-mouth disease. The patient was transferred to our hospital with cerebral septic emboli and bilateral lower extremity emboli requiring early surgery. Complications of this syndrome and surgical risks are discussed in this report.

Acrocephalosyndactyl (ACS) describes a group of diseases with craniofacial anomalies resulting from premature sutural craniosynostosis and hand and foot anomalies consisting principally of brachydactyly, syndactyly, and polydacytly. Although considerable phenotypic overlap exists, these syndromes are considered by most investigators to be the result of different (although possibly allelic) genes. This report describes the clinical and roentgenologic manifestations in a family wit acrocephalosyndactyly (ACS) showing considerably variation in phenotype. Two different types of ACS were clinically

We describe a girl who was diagnosed with split foot-split hand anomaly prenatally, in whom at birth the diagnosis of Van Allen-Myhre syndrome was made, and who at 8 months of age was recognized to have Goltz syndrome. Based on the evolution of clinical features in this infant, we suggest that our case, as well as that reported by Van Allen and Myhre, is an example of unusually severe Goltz syndrome.

In this report we describe a 17 weeks old female fetus with a lumbosacral meningocoele, multicystic renal dysplasia (Potter type IIb) and postaxial polydactyly type A at the left hand and left foot. There was no hepatic fibrosis. Although multicystic renal dysplasia and postaxial polydactyly are often present in the Meckel syndrome, a lumbosacral neural tube defect is not a typical finding in this syndrome.

An 83-year-old man visited our hospital with liver tumors detected by abdominal ultrasonography. On investigation, he was diagnosed with sigmoid colon cancer with metastasis in the supraclavicular lymph node, liver, and para-aortic lymph node(T3N1M1b, Stage ⅣB[Union for International Cancer Control 8th edition]). He was administered combination therapy with capecitabine and bevacizumab owing to the increased age and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status score of 1. After 8 courses of chemotherapy, the primary tumor and liver metastases shrank. As he developed Grade 2 hand-foot

Cleft foot deformity is characterized by the absence of one or more median rays of the foot. This rare polymorphous congenital anomaly occurs more frequently in males, with a frequent autosomal dominant type of transmission. The purpose of surgical treatment is to narrow the width of the foot, but also to improve its global aesthetic look. Toe reparation, and more specifically web space reconstruction, provide the main technical challenges. We present an adaptation to the foot of a laterodigital cutaneous flap published by Barsky in 1964 for commissural reconstruction in cleft hand syndroms. T

Delta phalanges are unusual, shortened bones of the hands and feet with abnormal epiphyses and diaphyses. Here, we report on a patient with a unique multiple congenital anomaly syndrome that includes brachydactyly consisting of multiple delta phalanges in several digits of the hands and feet. The patient, who was born to consanguineous parents, had several other congenital anomalies, including butterfly vertebrae, craniofacial dysmorphism, and coarctation of the aorta. We have called this distinctive condition "brachydactylic multiple delta phalanges plus syndrome." Although no other member of

Polydactyly is a malformation during the development of the human limb, which is characterized by the presence of more than the normal number of fingers or toes. It is considered to be one of the most common inherited hand disorders. It can be divided into two major groups: Non-syndromic polydactyly or syndromic polydactyly. According to the anatomical location of the duplicated digits, polydactyly can be generally subdivided into pre-, post-axial, and mesoaxial forms. Non-syndromic polydactyly is often inherited with an autosomal dominant trait and defects during the procedure of anterior-pos

Microsurgical toe-to-hand transfers may provide improved hand function in children with absent digits. To date, documentation of the growth potential of these transferred digits has not been performed. This study reviewed the authors' series of pediatric toe-to-hand transfers, with specific attention paid to measuring growth by radiographic analysis. From 1995 to 2000, 23 toe-to-hand transfers were performed in 18 children. Age at time of transfer ranged from 2.8 to 13 years. Indications included constriction band syndrome, transverse deficiency, longitudinal deficiency, traumatic amputation,

Several studies have analyzed the long-term stability of cranioplasty and midface distraction in patients with craniosynostosis; however, few studies have investigated long-term quality of life (QOL) and complications in adults with syndromic craniosynostosis. This study aimed to investigate the QOL (social, physical, and psychosocial) of patients with adult syndromic craniosynostosis. Patients aged ≥20 years with syndromic craniosynostosis, who were surgically treated at a single craniofacial institution, were included in this study. We investigated everyday inconvenience (using the World Hea

A danish girl with incomplete, bilateral cryptophalmos together with assoicated craniofacial malformations, laryngeal hypoplasia, syndactyly, unilateral renal aplasia and slight external genital abnormalities is reported. Chromosomal abnormalities or metabolic disorders were not demonstrated. As the condition is extremely rare, some clinical and pathological fingings previosuly described in analogous cases are mentioned, together with a few pathogenetic mechanisms. Finally, a discussion regarding the aetiology of the condition is presented. Most authors are convinced that the malformative patt

The author reports a further case of cheirolumbar dysostosis (associated of Verbiest's constitutional narrowness of the lumbar canal and short and broad phalanges and metacarpals) and a case with multiple malformations including both the narrow lumbar canal and brachycheiry and also several other malformations of the bones. The author discusses the nosography of Verbiest's syndrome with regard to cheirolumbar dysostosis and to more complex and diffuse malformations.
