BACKGROUND: Expandable esophageal stents are widely used for the palliation of dysphagia in patients with esophageal cancer and are also beginning to be used in patients with benign esophageal diseases such as refractory strictures and fistulas. There is concern regarding the increased risk of migration of the fully covered Alimaxx metal esophageal stent and experience with this stent in benign esophageal pathology has been reported in only a small series of patients.

Airway stents are commonly used to palliate malignant central airway obstruction and tracheo-/bronchoesophageal fistulas. A 74-year-old man was diagnosed to have a ventricular septal defect (VSD), which was detected shortly following transvenous pacemaker implantation. Transoesophageal echocardiography suggested the presence of two VSDs, one of which was closed with a device. At surgery, a single large VSD was seen, with the implanted device having embolised into the left ventricle. The defect was successfully closed using a pericardial patch, and the embolised device explanted.

We describe a pseudophakic patient with pseudoexfoliation who developed late intraocular lens (IOL) instability manifested by pseudophakodonesis, a change in refraction, and loss of glaucoma control. The patient subsequently required glaucoma surgery that was complicated by vitreous loss. Preoperative ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) failed to provide useful information regarding the zonular status. The patient died as a result of a malignancy, and the eye was donated for research. The Anatomic Modular Knee (AMK; Depuy, Warsaw, Ind) was one of the first designs to incorporate a modular locking mechanism for the tibial insert; fixation was secured using a screw-in tibial tray-locking pin. This case report describes a patient who presented with instability and worsening knee pain 15 years following a primary total knee arthroplasty using the AMK prosthesis. Radiographs and intraoperative assessment revealed proximal migration of the tibial tray-locking pin into the medial femoral condyle resulting in a large osteolytic defect.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to demonstrate endovascular treatment of wide-necked aneurysms of the internal carotid artery with the liquid embolic agent Onyx HD 500.
METHODS: Twenty-two wide-necked, large or giant aneurysms of the internal carotid artery (ICA) were treated in 22 patients with Onyx HD 500 (15 ophthalmic, 1 clinoid, and 6 cavernous aneurysms). Sixteen patients were asymptomatic, and mass effect of the aneuryms caused cranial nerve palsy in 6. Seven aneurysms showed regrowth after prior endovascular coiling.

BACKGROUND: The design of the Exeter stem may facilitate distal migration, but radiostereometric analysis (RSA) studies have been limited to 2 years of follow-up.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We followed migration of the Exeter femoral stems in 22 primary hip arthroplasties for 5 years with RSA.

Complications associated with coronary stent placement have decreased in recent years. One of the complications involved with this procedure is the possibility that the stent is stripped from the delivery catheter prior to deployment and is lost systemically. This paper reports a rare complication which resulted in vascular insufficiency necessitating surgical intervention.
