99mTc-depreotide in the evaluation of bone infection and inflammation.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: (99m)Tc-depreotide is a (99m)Tc-labelled somatostatin analogue, with high affinity for the 2, 3 and 5 subtypes of somatostatin receptors. These particular receptors are over-expressed on the surface of activated leucocytes, which mediate inflammatory response. Based on this property this study tried to investigate whether (99m)Tc-depreotide scintigraphy could be a useful complementary method in the investigation of bone infection and inflammation. METHODS: Twenty-three patients, who were investigated for probable osteomyelitis, underwent three-phase bone scintigraphy follo

Additively manufactured monolithic zirconia post-and-core crowns in the management of severe pathologic anterior tooth migration: A 1-year follow-up report.

Severe pathologic tooth migration (PTM) secondary to chronic periodontitis presents significant functional and esthetic challenges. This report describes a fully digital workflow for rehabilitating severe anterior PTM using additively manufactured (AM) monolithic zirconia post-and-core crowns. Through digital planning, precise crown resection and ferrule and post space preparation were completed before an intraoral scanner captured accurate digital scans. The 1-piece restorations provided excellent fit and adhesion, significantly improved the axial inclination of the clinical crowns, and yield

Open proximal contact associated with a cast restoration--progressive bone loss: a case report.

A patient presented with early to moderate periodontitis localized around tooth No. 30. This tooth had a cast restoration with an open proximal contact for the previous seven years. Radiographs spanning this time period showed progressive bone loss. Surgical periodontal therapy was performed after correction of the open proximal contact with a provisional restoration. A new porcelain-fused-to-metal crown was placed three months after surgical therapy. The patients has been on a regular six-month recall schedule for three years and has maintained a healthy periodontium. Prior food impaction has

Biomechanics of Tooth-Supported Fixed Dental Prostheses: Material Systems, Connector Design, Retainer Design, and Abutment Stress Distribution-A Systematic Review of In Vitro and Finite Element Evidence.

Background: Tooth-supported fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) remain relevant when implant therapy is limited, but their mechanical behavior depends on material selection, connector design, retainer design, prosthesis configuration, and abutment support. This systematic review assessed how these factors affect fracture behavior and stress transmission in tooth-supported FDPs. Materials and Methods: PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science Core Collection, and Dentistry and Oral Sciences Source were searched for English-language studies published from 1 January 2016 to 15 May 2026. Effect of denture and soft tissue disinfection on edentulous biofilms.

Oral biofilms play a central role in oral and systemic diseases. Periodontal pathogens such as Porphyromonas gingivalis and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans have been detected on dentures and oral mucosa, suggesting denture wearers remain at risk. This study aimed to evaluate whether combined denture and soft tissue disinfection reduces microbial biofilm more effectively than denture cleaning alone. Sixty-one complete-denture wearers were randomly assigned to a test group (n = 31; denture disinfection plus soft tissue chlorhexidine treatment) or a control group (n = 30; denture disinfecti

Understanding peri-implantitis: a strategic review.

The high survival rate of osseointegrated dental implants is well documented, but it is becoming increasingly clear that successfully integrated implants are susceptible to disease conditions that may lead to loss of the implant. Although placement and restoration usually are included in the domain of the periodontal, oral and maxillofacial surgery, or prosthetic specialist, given the increasing numbers of patients treated with osseointegrated fixtures, it is increasingly likely that maintenance of these implants by the general dentist will become much more common. However, the surrounding tis

Implant treatment in periodontitis-susceptible patients: a systematic review.

Implant treatment in individuals with periodontitis-associated tooth loss is frequently debated. The objective of the present systematic review was to assess the principles and outcome of implant treatment in periodontitis-susceptible patients. Studies considered for inclusion were searched in MEDLINE (PubMed) and relevant journals were hand-searched. The search was restricted to studies published in English from 1980 to 2006. Prospective and retrospective cohort studies assessing implant treatment in partially and totally edentulous individuals with a history of periodontitis-associated tooth

Peri-implantitis-Is it mainly a clinician-initiated complication of implant therapy?

AIM: The high prevalence of peri-implantitis is concerning, with a growing consensus that the majority of cases are complications initiated by clinician-related errors rather than classic pathology. A primary predisposing factor for peri-implantitis is exposure of the micro-rough implant surfaces to the peri-implant sulcus after treatment. OBJECTIVES: To identify surgical/prosthetic factors causing micro-rough surface exposure and advocate for prevention and evidence-based protocols. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This paper reviews evidence linking surgical and prosthetic errors to micro-rough surf

Marginal bone changes around platform-switched conical connection implants placed 1 or 2 mm subcrestally: A multicenter crossover randomized controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: This study analyzes early marginal bone modifications occurring around platform-switched implants with conical connection placed 1 or 2 mm subcrestally. METHODS: This crossover randomized controlled trial enrolled partially edentulous patients needing two implants in either the posterior maxilla or mandible. Each patient received two platform-switched implants with conical connection inserted 2 mm (Test) and 1 mm (Control) subcrestally. Definitive abutments were immediately connected and, after 4 months of unsubmerged healing, screwed metal-ceramic crowns were delivered. Radiogr

Clinical factors and self-perceived oral health.

Self-perceived oral health is affected not only by awareness of the clinical status but also by comparisons with people of a similar age. This study explored the relative contributions of clinical variables assessing caries, periodontal status, and prosthetic status to self-perceived oral health within two age groups. Data of 891 adults (35-44 yr of age) and 760 older people (65-74 yr of age) from the Fourth German Oral Health Study (DMS IV, 2005) were evaluated. Self-perceived oral health was obtained from questionnaires. Numbers of decayed, filled, and unreplaced teeth, mean attachment loss,

Non-surgical treatment of peri-implant pathology.

INTRODUCTION: Peri-implant pathologies consist of an inflammatory process affecting the soft and hard tissues surrounding the implants. Chlorhexidine is considered the gold standard antiseptic, with a large variety of choice in administration. In this study, a protocol for the irrigation of peri-implant pockets with a chlorhexidine gel, using a plastic needle for the delivery of the product into the peri-implant pockets is described. STUDY PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS: Nine patients with at least one implant presenting peri-implant pathology (inflamed soft tissue associated with bone loss around
