PURPOSE: Changes in retinal thickness are common in various ocular diseases. Transverse magnification due to differing ocular biometrics, in particular axial length, affects measurement of retinal thickness in different regions. This study evaluated the effect of axial length and refractive error on measured macular thickness in two community-based cohorts of healthy young adults.
METHODS: A total of 2160 eyes of 1247 community-based participants (18-30 years; 23.4% myopes, mean axial length = 23.6mm) were included in this analysis. Macular thickness measurements were obtained using a spectra

BACKGROUND: To evaluate differences in Corvis ST tonometry (CST) parameters between healthy eyes and eyes with primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG). METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed CST parameters of 24 healthy eyes and 24 eyes with PACG after 1:1 propensity score matching based on age, sex, axial length, intraocular pressure, and central corneal thickness. Differences in 12 CST parameters were evaluated using linear mixed-effects models, with group as a fixed effect and subject ID as a random intercept to account for inter-eye correlation. The models were adjusted for age, sex, axial len

We are reporting the successful treatment of a rare case of spontaneous suprachoroidal hemorrhage (SSCH) in a young refractory glaucoma patient with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD). The 34-year-old male was admitted to our hospital having experienced pain in his right eye for two days. The patient had a history of glaucoma and long axial length in the right eye with chronic poorly controlled intraocular pressure (IOP) and acute hypotony. Following clinical examinations, the patient was diagnosed with SSCH with RRD in the right eye. The patient underwent drainage of the suprachoroidal h

PURPOSE: To compare theoretical values from the small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) lenticule thickness readout with change in axial length measurements taken with the IOLMaster.
METHODS: We prospectively studied 214 eyes from 107 patients undergoing bilateral SMILE surgery for myopia or myopic astigmatism between December 2014 and May 2017 at an ophthalmological practice in Singapore. All eyes were examined pre-operatively and 1 and 3 months post-operatively with the IOLMaster following SMILE surgery. Achieved lenticule thickness was taken as the change in axial length after surgery.

The aim is to study the intraocular pressure (IOP)-lowering effects of additional administration of ripasudil in open-angle glaucoma (OAG) patients including high myopia (HM) and pathological myopia (PM). Study design is retrospective cohort study. We assessed the changes in the mean IOP between the HM eyes (axial length ≧ 26.5 mm 33 eyes) and the non-HM eyes (axial length < 26.5 mm 29 eyes) at 4 and 12 weeks from baseline. We also assessed the IOP changes between the PM eyes (21 eyes) and the non-PM eyes (41 eyes). The significant IOP reduction by the ripasudil administration was observed at

BACKGROUND: Better knowledge of the growth patterns of the external and internal eyes of neonates would permit more accurate diagnosis of disorders that affect ocular size such as infantile glaucoma and microphthalmos. Such disorders preferentially may affect certain parts of the internal eye but not other parts. No previous study statistically has evaluated internal ocular growth in preterm newborns.
METHODS: A-scan ultrasonography was applied directly to the corneas of 101 healthy preterm and term newborns to determine axial length, anterior chamber depth, lens thickness, and vitreous chamb

BACKGROUND: Myopia is a growing global health concern, with prevalence surging, especially in East and Southeast Asia. The World Health Organization identifies high myopia as -5.00 diopter or less, carrying an elevated risk of irreversible blindness. In 2020, an estimated 2.6 billion people had myopia, projected to reach 4.7 billion by 2050, leading to a rise in complications like myopic maculopathy. This study, conducted in Nepal, where 47.16% of the population is myopic, aims to assess fundus and optic nerve changes in high myopia, examining associations with age, gender, axial length, and m
