A corneal abrasion is the most common eye complication during general anesthesia and recovery. We prospectively studied the value of the cocaine test in the diagnosis of Horner's syndrome, by performing the test in 20 control subjects and in 20 patients with a provisional diagnosis of Horner's syndrome. Dopamine eye drops produce marked dilatation of the pupil in man. This mydriatic effect is inhibited by pretreatment with guanethidine. It is therefore concluded that dopamine acts indirectly via adrenergic nerve endings, rather than exerting a direct effect on adrenergic receptors in the dilator pupillae muscle. A 40-year-old woman with no known medical conditions or allergies presented with severely painful, watery eyes and blurred vision. She reported topical application of face-paint onto both upper eyelids prior to attending a Halloween party. She subsequently noticed a burning sensation, epiphora and misty vision within a few hours. On examination, bilateral large corneal epithelial defects were highlighted with fluorescein dye under cobalt-blue light. Antibiotic ointment, mydriatic and sodium ascorbate 10% eye-drops were given, and patient was advised to keep the eyelids shut to promote healing.

This study presents a non-contact method for estimating pulse wave-like signals by analyzing temporal changes in retinal vessel diameter captured in near-infrared fundus videos. Chronic anterior uveitis affects 10-30 % of patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and is still a cause of blindness in childhood. A 48-year-old Caucasian man with an established diagnosis of pathological ankylosing spondylitis with cervical spinal fusion and a lengthy history of acute, recurrent, anterior uveitis presented with decreased vision in both eyes.
