Currently, it is unclear which tasks and competencies nurse specialists provide within the European Reference Network for Craniofacial Anomalies and Ear, Nose, Throat Disorders (ERN CRANIO). This study aims to establish an expert consensus on the needed competencies for this nursing role. A narrative literature search on the role of nurses within cleft and craniofacial care was conducted. Statements on competencies and tasks were formed based on literature and expert opinion and categorized according to the Canadian Medical Education Directives for Specialists roles. A Delphi consensus process

OBJECTIVES: to discuss immunization errors from the perspective of the nursing professionals' work process in order to minimize their occurrence.
METHODS: this is a reflective study, grounded in concepts and constructs of nursing in public health.
RESULTS: the vaccination room is considered a strategic space in nursing practice, requiring both technical and managerial skills from the nurse. Overwork and precarious working conditions are associated with lower engagement in safe practices. Error prevention demands a systemic approach that goes beyond individual accountability and considers the

BACKGROUND: Neurodiversity encompasses the range of ways individuals receive, process, and respond to information. Misconceptions about neurodiversity and ableism persist in nursing education. This study analyzed nursing faculty's knowledge of neurodiverse diagnoses.
METHOD: This study analyzed 2024 data on nursing faculty preparedness to teach neurodiverse students. Open-ended responses from 89 nursing faculty at three North American institutions were analyzed to identify knowledge gaps.
RESULTS: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) was the most frequently mentioned neurodiverse

Despite existing guidelines for constipation management, constipation remains a prevalent issue among older individuals in long-term care facilities. The aim of this qualitative study was to provide an overview of nursing constipation management and the associated challenges in Swiss-German nursing homes. From September to December 2022, 51 nursing staff from 20 nursing homes were surveyed online, using literature-based open questions. Using a content analysis approach, four categories were identified in relation to constipation management: Assessment of Constipation and Risks; Prevention and

BACKGROUND: Alleviating symptoms, fulfilling psychosocial needs, and the inclusion of family are among the criteria that determine care quality in palliative treatment. The care quality is especially inadequate for people with dementia (PwD) at the end of life. To improve this, it is necessary to understand the process of nurses' clinical decision-making in symptom management in the terminal phase of PwD.
AIM: The aim of the study was to examine the decision-making process of symptom management for PwD in nursing homes in their terminal phase of life.
DESIGN: A qualitative design was chosen

BACKGROUND: Missed nursing care is a key indicator of compromised care quality, often attributed to workload and staffing. Yet it may also be influenced by accountability focus-whether nurses are evaluated on outcomes or on processes. Evidence suggests that its effect on performance, and thus on missed care, may depend on task complexity, but this has not been tested in clinical practice.
AIM: To investigate whether task complexity (simple vs. complex) moderates the association between nurses' felt accountability focus (outcome vs. process) and missed nursing care.
DESIGN: A prospective repe

OBJECTIVE: Multiple studies have been published on toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) and Stevens-Johnsen syndrome (SJS). Nursing care is an important part of the treatment of TEN patients. Unfortunately, limited information on nursing in TEN/SJS patients has been published in the current literature. Nursing research is needed to improve the complex nursing care required for these rare patients. Therefore, the objective was to assess nursing problems in TEN patients in a burn centre setting over a 30-year period.
METHODS: The data for this study were gathered retrospectively from nursing record

1. Tourette's syndrome is a disorder with a multitude of complex behavioral problems with major implications for social impairment and emotional pain. 2. The generic care plan anticipates the predictable management problems in adolescent patients. It offers nursing interventions, particularly structure, which is important in managing symptoms. 3. The treatment process is slow. The successful implementation requires consistent efforts from the nursing staff, treatment team, and family.

The time for needed nursing care is one important measurement as a basic for financing care. In Germany the Long Term Care Insurance (LTCI) reimburses nursing care depending on the time family care givers need to complete selected activities. The LTCI recommends certain time ranges for these activities, which are wholly compensatory, as a basic for assessment. The purpose is to enhance assessment justice and comparability. With the example of a German research project, which had to investigate the duration of these activities and the reasons for differences, questions are raised about some def

There has been a growing emphasis on data across various health-related fields, not just in nursing research, due to the increasing volume of unstructured data in electronic health records (EHRs). Natural Language Processing (NLP) provides a solution by transforming this unstructured data into structured formats, thereby facilitating valuable insights. This methodology paper explores the application of NLP in nursing, using an exemplar case study that analyzes YouTube data to investigate social phenomena among adults living alone. The methodology involves five steps: accessing data through You

A subphrenic abscess is an abscess which forms below the diaphragm and above the transverse colon. Patients in the postoperative period following gastric, esophageal or hepatic surgery are at risk of developing a subphrenic abscess especially if they are older, if they develop a leak at an anastomosis site or if there was a high operative blood loss. Nurses who are aware of high-risk patients should increase their observations of the signs and symptoms of early subphrenic abscess. Subphrenic abscesses are often managed on the general nursing units but signs of impending respiratory failure or

Previous studies have demonstrated that sleep-related problems are common in the aging process. Such problems are greater in nursing home residents than other elderly people. This study had the following objectives: (1) establish the clinical profile of nursing home residents according to their quality of sleep and intake of hypnotic medication, (2) assess participants' functionality in relation with their quality of sleep and (3) correlate participants' functional status with their quality of sleep. The study sample was composed of 334 nursing home residents. Results showed a high percentage

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is a serious health problem that affects the reproductive capacity and the sexual activities of women. Approximately 50,000 cases are reported annually resulting in severe pain, reduced fertility and costly health care. Diagnosis of PID requires a complex analysis of the history, a thorough physical examination and diagnostic testing. Goals of care include accurate diagnosis with particular emphasis on differential diagnosis, antibiotic therapy, close follow-up and counseling. Antibiotic therapy is directed against the pathogenic organism, either gonococcal or

This integrative review examines the use of appreciative inquiry in correctional health care settings, following the guidelines of Whittemore and Knafl. Using the Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice Research Evidence Appraisal Tool, it assessed the level and quality of the evidence. Search terms included appreciative inquiry AND healthcare, appreciative inquiry AND nursing practice, and appreciative inquiry AND criminal justice. Nine of the 92 articles reviewed used steps of the appreciative inquiry process and were selected for the final review and analysis. Most study authors recom

Clinical trials on pediatric oncology use therapeutic techniques with the overwhelming majority of children's cancer patients obtaining therapy via clinical investigation procedures. Medical treatment is scheduled according to a specific protocol for enrolled patients. These protocols often do not refer to nursing care. Nursing care, on the other hand, must complement the medical care specified in the medical research protocol. Safe treatment administration, assessment of treatment responses, patients' and families' education, and communication with the whole medical team are just a few of the

Teaching research to undergraduates has it own challenges and involving undergraduates in research practical experience is just one of those challenges. As nursing students are in the process of becoming professional nurses, knowledge and skills in research are specific outcomes of the curriculum. One of the outcomes of the B Tech Nursing Science programme offered by the Tshwane University of Technology states that for the baccalaureate nursing programme include analysis, interpretation and utilisation of a range of research findings in scientific nursing and midwifery care as well as the deve
